yes, because there was virtually no possibility on sighting the moon in saudi at start of ramadhan on sunday 31st july . (saudi should have had their first fast on tuesday 2nd aug)
however because the saudis had started shaaban one day early, and 30 days of shaaban had been completed they had no choice but to start ramadhan one day early on night of sunday 31st july.

aaww
as far for those muslims in australia who do a local sighting they are on their 28th fast in australia (see moonsighting.com )because they had their first fast on tues 2nd aug.
so they won't be even attempting to sight the moon till tomorrow night (on tues) and someone has come up with a claim of sighting the moon when its totally impossible.

salams sister
sorry to say but it seems you are confused.
i was talking about month of shaaban and because saudi had completed 30 days of shaaban they had to start ramadhan on night of sunday 31st july ie first fast on mon 1st aug.
whereas they should have really started on tues 2nd aug ie meaning first fast on tuesday.
as far as eid goes, its virtually impossible to have eid on tuesday in saudi. http://arabnews.com/saudiarabia/article494126.ece

I really hope tomorrow is Eid

Well according to the map, the new moon will be easily visible tonight in South-America, so even if Saudi claims to have seen the moon, we can follow the sightings in South America.
But I wonder if according to wifaqululama.co.uk this would be correct. Those who follow wifaq do not know who those "reliable testimonies" in South Africa are and how the news was verified, but still follow them.
Anyone from South-America here?

aaww brother,
yes looks as though there is more than one group.
if you go on moonsighting.com and then see the ramadhan sighting reports then you will see that some people in australia started according to a sighting in indonesia and some are reliant on their local sighting.
as for you brother in south india, there was not much chance of eid on tuesday anyway.
first naked eye sightings are expected from south america as explained on moonsighting.com
happy eid mubarak to you on wednesday.
We're going to be looking for the moon for Shawwal around maghrib time tonight,.
We're going by local/regional sighting.
