I thought that was (one of?) the Shafi'i definition of the bear, while the Hanafis deemed as "wajib beard" all the facial hair growing on the jaw-bone (for the lenght of a fistful)..?

Just in to clarify, in case it wasn't made clear earlier (because Witr according to our Madhhab is unique and not like the Witr of other Madhhabs):

    2. Witr is three raka'at*—
After two raka'at sit for the at-tahiyyat and then get up for the third rakah. Do not recite [Durud and do not give Salam].
In the third rakah recite al-fatiha and then another surah after it.** After reciting the second surah in the third rakah you give the takbir with the hands raised to the ears (like at the beginning of salah) then clasp your hands together below the navel again and recite du'a qunut.***
After reciting du'a qunut you go into ruku and finish the third rakah like you normally would (sit for at-tahiyyat, then durud, then a du'a, and then salam).
    3. A surah should be recited after al-Fatiha in every rakah of Witr, as was mentioned.
    4. If you forget to recite Du'a Qunut, you should make Sajad-e-sahw (prostration of forgetfulness).
    5. If you haven't memorized Du'a Qunut yet, you there are other du'a you can say.****
-Very loosely paraphrased from Bahishti Zewar (p.161). Any mistakes are my own, and will hopefully be pointed out and corrected .

*=Witr is 3 raka'at in the Hanafi Madhhab, only 3 raka'at. Not more, not less. (As far as I know, there is no such thing as 1 raka'at Salah in our Madhhab, someone will correct me if this is incorrect.)

**= it is wajib: "To recite a Surah or a lengthy Aayat or three small Aayats after SURAH FAATIHA in the first two Rakaats of FARZ Namaaz and in all the Rakaats of WAAJIB, SUNNAT and NAFL Namaaz." -Taleem ul-Haqq "Rules of Salah"

***=This video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqLcT...eature=related contains Du'a Qunoot in Arabic, with a transliteration and translation into English (in the video description).

****=According to Bahishti Zewar there are a few other Du'a that can be said if you don't know Qunut yet, but the book only contains the English text and Arabic text, no transliteration. I don't want to guess at the Arabic and make a mistake transliterating, so hopefully another brother/sister can elaborate on this.

wa alaykum as salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. It doesn't say you can make your own du'a it gives a few other du'a you can say instead of Qunut, if you haven't learned it yet. I don't know if you are allowed to make du'a of your own or not, especially if it's not in Arabic. I'd recommend sticking to the prescribed du'a.

Here is the page from Bahishti Zewar talking about the other Du'a you can use: http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/5481/witrstuff.jpg (sorry for the poor quality, I only have a camera phone and I can't type Arabic well enough to copy it to text.) It mentions on the previous page that whichever of these you choose should be recited 3 times.

someone who knows Arabic can transliterate it.

I've read that any du'a' will be valid for Qunut of Witr, but it must be in Arabic and it mustn't be similar to "human speech".

    as salam 'alaykoom wa rahmatullah

ok jazakooma allah khayran , i'll take that one Arif3 : "rabbana atina fi dounya hassana..." as shows in your book ( how can I purchase that one by the way ? ) thx for the pic

Al hamdu liLLahi , I make dou'at in arabic only almost everytime so it's no big deal wa liLLahi al hamd

I'll try to find time to memorize qunut in cha Allah, but there are many versions of it, I took one from a al albani book which starts by " Allahummma hdini fiman hadayt... " that's the one french imams recite during taraweeh, I don't know if hanafi scholars approve this one ?

I'm waiting for the dooroos "maraqi as sa'adah" on ustream you told me about 'Umar, I'll be back with further questions in cha Allah ...
