Default I have a few questions..

    Salam!

I have a few questions I need resolving and I was hoping the learned of you on here could help me Inshallah in either answering them or guiding me to where to get the answers from.

The first topic I want to ask questions on is Fasting.

I have a few scenarios in which my fasts either were void or may have been and I want you to help me rectify it. Some of these scenarios are from a few years back, I keep forgetting to resolve it and really want to do so now.

Scenario 1: I missed a fast while travelling, I may have been able to keep it but I wasn't sure I'd be able to so I didn't.

Scenario 2: I went swimming when there was 15 mins of a fast left, I was advised that I'd be risking it and I shouldn't. I thought I'd be clever and keep my head above water and so I swam, about 10 mins left for Iftar I miswam and my head went under water and water went down my throat. I kept on swimming and I think no more went down my throat. I delayed Iftar by about 30 mins.

Scenario 3: What happens if Iftar is delayed Intentionally or Unintentionally? Also in my area each mosques Sehri is different, my mosques is usually inbetween the two extremes, if I go over my mosques Sehri by a few minutes what happens?

Scenario 4: I wasn't feeling well during one fast but it wasn't that bad so I kept it. The next Sehri I woke up feeling slightly worse but I didn't feel bad enough not to keep a fast, and seeing as I'd coped with the previous fast I kept thae fast. However it got much worse after Sehri, bad enough I couldn't swallow my saliva without my throat hurting. My throat was very dry, inflamed and hurt when I swallowed even small amounts of saliva. I couldn't cope so I took a strepsil, I then continued to take strepsils and then some antibiotics. What should I do about this fast?

I hope you will be able to help me.

    Jazakallah

Scenario 1: You are allowed to miss fasts if you are travelling, but you will have to make it up later on by fasting, so you need to make that up but you didnt commit a sin.

As for the rest I don't know.

Seeing as this thread is on fasting, may I hijack this thread and add another please?

Scenario 5: Back when I wasn't practicing, I used to break my fasts and eat when no-one was around. I heard that if one intentionally breaks a fast they have to keep 60 fasts to make up for that one. Is this true, because if I overestimate just to be sure, I have missed 20 days worth over the years. Which equates to 1200 fasts I need to keep.

Scenario 6: I wasnt fully aware of the things which break fasts, and used to do them. Are my fasts valid, if not, do I keep 60 to make up for one or because I didn't know do I just keep the one. I think for some I had a doubt, which would place that in scenario 5, which would probably to be on the safe side take me to 40 days in total. Does that mean I need to keep 2400 fasts?

Very good questions, hopefully many of us will benefit from this thread.

    Salam!

Could someone please answer those questions above please. I really do need your help. I kept a fast to cover one of those fasts but I couldn't remember if I did the Niyyat, am I OK to do that fast again as I don't feel it was complete.

Also some of those fasts were from last year, and then some from the year before or maybe the year before that. I have a really bad memory, and so I was wondering what do I do for that.

    Thank you.

Also I was Kochay after I changed my email address to a new one it wouldn't let me post (I didn't receive a confirmation email). I contacted Sunni Forum twice but I got no reply. I really want answers to these questions and so I've had to make a new account. I hope that's OK with the mods.

    Thanks

A fast should be opened AS SOON AS it is Iftaar time.
Da sorrow in my heart wil remain, until I'm given da glad tidings of Jannah,

Scenario 1: You are allowed to miss fasts when traveling, its not a sin. But you must make up these fasts.

Scenario 3: It is makrooh to unnecessarily delay iftar. Your fast is still valid, but dont let this happen again if you want full reward for your fast.

Dont know about the other scenarios. Contact an 'alim.
    Hope I helped.

No, swallowing saliva does not break fast, even if its a lot.

Swallowing mucus does not break fast either:

It is haraam to swallow mucus whether one is fasting or not, because it is considered to be dirty and it may carry diseases produced by the body. But it does not break the fast if a fasting person swallows it, because it does not come from blood and swallowing it is not regarded as food or drink. If he swallows it after it reaches the mouth, it does not break the fast. From the words of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy on him. See al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 6/428.
