i think if a group considers someone a scholar then we should treat him with respect without considering that scholar the heir of the Prophet(PBUH).

This is what mostly happens if you argue with laymen ignorants. You resort to their level to debate further. And both sides end up calling horrendous names, abusing, takfir-ing and disrespecting each other's Ulemas. Both of whom are more learned (irrespective of being right or wrong, being straight or deviant) than the two arguing and in most cases, both have left the world. And in the end, it only matters to somehow win the argument rather than to teach what is right.

May Allah save us from such arguments.
