Default Let's Revive the Forgotten Sunnahs!!

"Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death,
he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him,
without it detracting in the least from their reward."
    (Tirmidhi 7/443)

I was wondering if we made an official thread for the sole purpose of discovering Forgotten Sunnah's and with sources to back it up of course and many can contribute towards it?

Examples of Forgotten Sunnah's can be Hijama (cupping) or having a stick in front of you for prayer to designate that you are performing Salat so that no one can pass you or wearing Kohl in the eyes (also called Surma) or even a Smile (even some Shaykhs have a hard time doing that)!
Abu Sa’id (ra) said that Rasullilah (salalahi alahi wasalam) said, “Whoever says:

Radeetu billahi rabban, wa bil-Islaami deenan, wa bi-Muhammadin rasoolan

Jannah becomes obligatory for him (to enter).
    [Abu-Dawud]

    - Best said in Morning and Evening with "Nabiyan wa rasoolan"

    sidi..

these are still sunnah .. My teacher once enumerated 4 things in his experience from the faraidh which the women of our Ummah are throwing away slowly...

    1. Iddat ( the way it is ought to be )
    2. Travelling with a mahram
    3. recording of ayyaam ul haid wat tuhr (he says this is a basic outcome of not being punctual on Salaah)
    4. ... I have forgotten this one...

but as for this thread.. among the sunnahs... we all have forgotten or have reduced it to to the level that we do it without knowing of its sunniyyah..

    application of oil abundantly..

    eat with three fingers

The manner of licking the fingers after eating. Even Mufti Taqi Saheb didn't know this until Moulana Tanvir Ahmad Khan Saheb told him!

the knowledge of things not known to him"

These small but important Sunnahs you learn while in Tableegh.

    Assalamu alaikum

When dark clouds start to appear, Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam would rush to the masjid to offer 2 rakaat Solat. Today, when dark clouds appear, we take it lightly. Let us revive this sunnah. Ameen

    Wassalam

    Salaam,

    Some rare sunnah -

    1. Qinaa - which is a small cloth that the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa salim used to were in his hat in order to soak up oil (my shaikh told me to just take some paper towel and put it in the topi).

    2. 'Asa (walking stick) - in Uswa i Rasool Akram it says that the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa salim used to always carry a walking stick with him, even when he rode on a camel. It is also reported in Shamaa'il Kubra that not many people will practice this sunnah as the Qiyamah nears.

    3. Suka - a small box that Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa salim used to keep his 'itr (perfume) in.

    4. Henna and Katm - the Prophet salallahu 'alaihi wa salim used these as a dye and so did the Sahabah. The women used to always keep their hands died with henna aswell, not just on special occasions.

    miswak

    something most important

    Narrated Aisha (tirmidi)

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: The preference for prayer (with ablution) in which miswak is used, to prayer (with ablution) in which it is not used, is seventy times.

Having salt and vinegar present at your dining place even if you don't intend to use them.

Eating on a floor mat; Dasterkhan(sic?)

Tasting a bit of salt before your meal.

Wearing your right shoe first and taking off your left shoe first.

Unconfirmed- Stepping on top of your left shoe then slipping your right foot in to the right shoe and then the left foot in to the left shoe. I heard this as a solution - and I think generally a sunnah - to when slippers are in the toilet and you need to step in with your left foot. This is allows you to complete both sunnahs. This is unconfirmed by me though.

Washing your hands before a meal but not drying them with a towel/tissue. Incidentally, this is how surgeons used to wash their hands before operations. Not sure if they still do.
