this is also a forgotten sunnah
Alhamdulillah every month i practice this sunnah.
reciting dua after moon sighting is also sunnah.
i used to recite 11 duas after moon sighting from a very famous book "amal al yaum wal lail" by hazrat imam IBNE SANNI(rta)
    عمل الیوم واللیلۃ لابن سَنِّی
heard this book first time from my teacher(mulana) when we used to read munazra.
then received this book(Arabic edition) as a gift from a scholor for my hazrat jee(rta) in MADINAH Munawara first time. as hazrat jee send me the name of this book in his own handwriting to purchase it from MAKKAH or MADINAH.
very very amazing, meaningful and beneficial duas.later on i found its urdu translation too.the very first time it is translated.very beautiful.
i love this book very much.
Moon sighting has the added advantage of macro time management. The way we can be penny wise and pound foolish the similar thing happens in our time management - we might be meticulous about our minutes but there might not be any overall structure at the macro level. And one can establish the macro structure if are aware of macro time. Thus moon sighting has worldly benefits too.

    Check this one :

Checking from where the Sun Rises

It is reported that Jundub b. ‘Abdillāh Al-Bajalī said:
I once sought permission to see Hudhayfah () three times without being given permission. So I left, but his messenger caught up with me. [When I spoke to Hudhayfah] he asked, “What made you leave?” I replied, “I thought you were sleeping (after Fajr).” He said, “I do not sleep until I see where the sun rises from.” [The narrator] said, “I related this to Muhammad (another narrator), to which he said, ‘More than one of the Companions of Muhammad did this.’”

It is reported that Al-Dahhāk said:
How surprising it is that the companions of ‘Abdulāh (ibn Mas’ūd) () are looking now to see where the sun rises from. Do they not know that when Fajr comes from a direction, the sun rises from the same?

Ibn Abī Shaybah, Kitāb Al-Adab articles 156 and 157.
