I also heard that among the favorite foods of the Messenger Muhammad (SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is squash/pumpkin. He (SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) also loved milk and honey.
Allah knows bestThe Prophet (SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) liked white clothing because it is 'clean' and a sign of 'purity'. Allahu A'lam

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Wear white clothes, for they are the best of your clothes, and shroud your dead in them.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 994,
hasan saheeh. This is what the scholars regarded as mustahabb.
Also narrated by Abu Dawood, 4061; Ibn Maajah, 1472.

Since you are Hanafi, I will quote the Hanafi opinion for you. The respected Ulama may choose to comment and/or correct me if I make a mistake.
The Arabic word for embracing (or hugging as you said, but I prefer the former) is معانقة or Mu'aanaqah, the literal meaning of which is for one to entwine their neck with another.
The prevalent (راجح) Hanafi opinion (including Imams Abu Hanifa, Abu Yusuf, and Muhammad رحمہم اللہ) on embrace is that it is allowed, as long as both persons are fully clothed (i.e. wearing a shirt as well as a trouser), and there is no desire (شهوة), and according to some that the persons involved are friends, relatives and such (i.e. known to each other).
Additionally, the Mu'aanaqah (as well as Taqbeel - kissing one's hand or the forehead) should be done on the following occasions:
1. When saying goodbye to a person starting a journey
2. When someone returns from a journey
3. When meeting someone after a long time
4. In the extreme love of Allah
It may be considered a Sunnah when done on above occasions, but doing Mu'aanaqah every day as has become common these days is not considered a Sunnah, and in fact should be avoided. The everyday Sunnah is that of Musafaha or shaking hands.
Remember, Mu'aanaqah is when you embrace someone at their neck, upper torso (i.e. chest and shoulders). Anything beyond that is not condoned.
As I used to joke with friends during Madrasa days that while a few people actually do معانقة, the rest either do مصادرة or مباطنة, and there are yet some who just can't help but do a full مذاكرة.
