    Assalamualaikum,

I think her iddah will have already been spent after 2 years! Unless she was pregnant for 2 years or something.

No, her finding out later or not does not make a difference, just as in divorce. The death is the cause of her performing the iddah. The iddah of a widow is 4 months and 10 days.

May Allah increase us in our understanding of the religion.

brother Bilal, so if she wasn't aware of her husband's death and didn't spend the iddah days at home, so will she be sinful on her part? And now after knowing her husband's death, if she won't have to observe iddah, can she re marry now?

AssalamuAlaikum, If brother Bilal is an Aalim then fine, Alhamdulillah, but from what I know (I could be wrong) the Iddah starts from the time when a woman finds out of his death no matter when he died. I could be completely wrong, but would suggest to you brother Amaan that you contact an Aalim. There are some on the Forum too, so you can check with them by sending an email.

    Wassalamu Alaikum.

Please check Maulana abuhajira's reply below, I stand corrected. May Allah forgive me if this caused any problem. JazaakAllahu Khairan.

The iddah would have finished after the actual death whether she came to know or not.

Sister Ankaboot, do you know anyone's email on forum, I'm just waiting for the right eye to be laid on my question, I hope I'll get an answer soon :insha:, however I raised this issue for this reason itself that I was also under the impression that her iddah is already over, no problems if she was not aware, lets hope to see the right answer

Maulana abuhajira is an alim. You should take his answer as reliable and look no further.

Yes, she can get married again now her iddah is completed. Insha'Allah she is not sinful for what she is unaware of.
