Arrow Refutation of Composite Nationalism by 'Allamah Zafar Ahmad al-'Uthmani

The attached file is a translation of a section from I'la al-Sunan by brother Zameelur Rahman, addressing a controversial political theory popular within some Muslim circles of that time, and in doing so, 'Allamah Zafar Ahmad al-'Uthmani touches on a number of issues of relevance and interest.

    Translator's note:

At the end of the Book of Campaigns (Kitab al-Siyar) from I‘la al-Sunan, Mawlana Zafar Ahmad al-‘Uthmani (1310-1394 H/1892-1974 CE) writes: “Its compilation was [done] under the supervision of the prodigy of this age, the knower of Allah, the sage of the Muhammadan nation, the reviver of the Islamic religion, my master, Shaykh Mawlana Muhammad Ashraf ‘Ali al-Thanawi (1280-1362 H/1863-1943 CE), Allah extend his stay amongst us and give us the good fortune of his sacred breaths for a long time. All praise to Allah by Whose glory and magnificence, good deeds are accomplished. Our final call is that all praise belongs to Allah Lord of the Worlds.” After this comes a section under the title, “An Addendum to the Book of Campaigns: Refutation of Composite Nationalism,” in which he addresses a particular political ideology popular at that time in India which has correlations with modernist tendencies amongst many Muslims today. I therefore, felt, it was fitting to translate this 25-page refutation. The date given at the end of the addendum for the completion of this refutation is Dhu al-Qa‘dah 1357 H (January 1939 CE).

Mashallah. Is there a translation of any other portion of I'la Sunan other than this and the introduction?

The following translations are available: prohibition of prostrating to other than Allah, on the life of the prophets in the grave, criticism of the harshness of the wahhabis, and defence of taqlid, and Raf' al-Yadayn section from I'la as-Sunan.

"The servant who is unaware of his contemptibility and regards himself as honourable, is truly contemptible"
(Ikmalush Shiyam - commentary of the Hikam of Ibn Ata'illah al-Iskandari)

If Allah had not concealed my faults, and my true self was displayed, people would not even spit on me.

All of Maulana Madani's arguments are satisfactorily rebutted in Allamah Uthmani's piece, such as the pact with the Jews of Madina.

I have read this refutation of Composite nationalism.

The idolators have been in the majority since the Muslims landed in India till this day. And no Maulana Madani's concept of Composite nationalism is misunderstood here.

The reason why this idea was put forward by Maulana Madani was that the muslims did not have the people to run the Islamic State. He learned from the mistakes of the Muslim freedom struggle of the late 19th Century and early 20th Century in the Muslim colonies of Europe.

Millions sacrificed their lifes and gained freedom. And when the power was transferred to the Muslims, they did not have the people to run the state. Though their were scholars of high calibre and expertise and Awliya of the highest order, they lacked the skills to run an Islamic State. Eventually, they had to borrow the same government peoples from their fromer masters and all their efforts were laid to ruin.

This same course Pakistan has also taken and we can see the current state of Affairs. Millions of precious Muslim lifes were lost and what have we gained.

It is Fard e Kifayah on the Muslim masses to produce sufficient skilled pious muslims who can administer the affairs of the Muslims (Maulana Sajjad Naumani)

    Darse-e-Quran Surah Yusuf 51-55. 16th November 2011

This lectures touches on these issues, though he did not discuss Maulana Madani and Pakistan. These references are mine only

The Pact with the Jews was signed in the fourteenth year of Prophet hood ie: 1 AH even before the Battle of Badr. The Muslims were a small minority then.

The Ummah has stopped producing qualified statesmen. Every where we find oppression.
