    Default Improving Memory

    Salam to everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone was sure of whether or not memorizing quran increases memory. My friend who is a hafiz alhumdulillah says that, as you memorize more surahs, your memory becomes stronger, and you can memorize not only quran quicker, but anything. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, i am currently learning arabic, and was wondering if the same thing would happen for arabic. Example is if one would memorize lets say 1000 words, would this improve their memory, allowing them to memorize things quicker, if they wanted to memorize more words or quran. I dont know if i am being unclear, but any help would be much appreciated. Jazakallah Khair.

You're friend is right. Memorizing the Qur'an can make other things much easier to memorize. It's makes your brain develop photographic memory. It will also help you learn the Arabic language and possibly other languages as well! Amazing.

    To increase your memory, memorize.

So memorize the Qur'an because Allah has made it easy to memorize.

Adhering to the sunnah of siwak also increases memory..

    Wasalam,
Jazakallah to everyone for the help. I was also wondering if memorizing arabic increases the memory because you are still memorizing something. Or is it only the quran?

    Wa alaikumus salaam,

Memorising anything will lead to your memory becoming stronger. Your memory is like a muscle - the more you exercise it the better it becomes. When you are memorising arabic try to memorise the matn you are working on, such as Hidayatun Nahw or Ajoorumiah etc. Insha Allah it will get better. Make sure what you are memorising is organised and repeat exposure to it. Make sure you revise regularly what you have memorised otherwise you will forget it.
