It would be beneficial if the OP could clarify what he means by "salafi", because that label is applied to people for different reasons, just like the label "sufi".

i mean gher muqallid who do not follow one of the four established madhabs.
As brothers and sisters told here about them, i was also salafi minded unknowingly.
I hv a thought that majority of muslims start studying, want revival go towards strict salafism. I found very difficult to convince them about significance of madhab.
aoa,
i was very salafi-minded but Alhamdulillah i had an affinity for ideologies that were balanced. hence moved towards being a deobandi (partly because of their acceptance of tasawwuf). tho i try my best not to be zealous about taking sides but sometimes i get carried away.
i think many people who get interested in Islam tend to go the salafi way. Alhamdulillah once someone realizes the importance of scholars of both present and yesteryear they tend to see cracks in their ideology.
and no im not famous : D

Do not distort the Name of Allah 'Al - Wahhab' just to mock the teachings of Sh. Mohammad ibn Abdul Wahhab.
after wasting my time in endless debates of differences, i am become broad minded in these issues. i like Dr. Zakir Naik for his speciality in dealing with non muslims. At this stage of muslim ummah, anything good from scholars of any school of thought should be supported instead of politicized.
The main problem i think the salafis/ahlehadith has done is the open door of fitnas in rejection of taqleed. Although they themselves are practicing muslims but all deviants took concept of taqleed is shirk from them. In karachi, a very extremist jamaat "jamat ul muslemeen" is active which is far extreme than salafis.

Also Ghulam ahmad pervaiz, ghulam ahmad qadiani first reject taqleed to raise fitna.
May Allah guide us to true path.

Assalamalaikum Brother,
Can you please pass some information on Ex-Salafi Maulana Atiq-ur-Rehman Sultani Sahab? I have only two speeches of him. I would like to know more about him and his works.
Jazak Allah,
Zakir

Assalamu alaykum
i was salafi for nearly 2 years. when i first started practising i was praying the hanafi method (didnt know madhabs). i started hanging around with tablighi brothers who were shafi in fiqh (they didnt know about fiqh). they used to tell me something is haram in my madhab which was meant to be hanafi which is halal for them. this got me really confused, i thought how can this be possible. so i drove to the bookshop asked for quran and sunnah books and purchased sahih al bukhari and albani rahimullah fiqh book. after a year i got stuck on a issue which was causing me problems i went through so many 4 hadith books before i found the awnser. after i read a fiqh manual i realised the awnser was there. i also read biographies of ibn uthaymeen, bin baz, ibn taymiah rahimahumullah and saw that they studied through a madhab. so i chose the hanbali madhab Alhamdulillah. i did try to follow the hanafi madhab but it was too different for me

I was a Salafi for a short period. When I came in touch with Tableegh jamaat, Scholars, good muslims - I stopped thinking the Salafi way.
