I have done some research on this site on the issue myself .
Rather then repeating whats already said like to clarify for myself a few points .
Is there conclusive evidence that the Rasul peace be upon him used to wear a ring on him . A lot of people call it a sunnah or is it really not so ?
Is there any conclusive evidence he wore a certain kind of stone ?
Is there any conclusive evidence he wore it on a certain finger ?
Some people use it thinking different stones have beneficial properties .
(Be careful here in differentiating shirk from believing something has beneficial properties ) Example if someone uses a medicinal herb believing it has remedies but not really
knowing for certain. Whats the origin of that train of thought ?
As I understand from reading the posts Hanafi fiqh has a practical approach of wearing
signet rings only . Signets are not used in our time .
I understand Gold is prohibited for men , why are some people also making haram a host of other metals like platinum , titanium and what not ?
Given all that is mentioned above ....... My own view is as follows
I look at it as just ornaments to be used like any
other product Allah has provided for us . He created everything on earth for humans .
Is there anything wrong if I wear rings just because I like them ; I also like wrist watches , sunglasses and nice clothes by the way ..... Vanity is a weakness but that is not the issue here . I see a lot of people wear thousand dollar suits and they are good Muslims and no one complains . So, wearing semiprecious stone with decency ( reasonably priced and in good taste ) do it really make any difference on your moral standing.
So should I put my mind at ease and not make it a big deal?
