Default What is the most "Islamic" city/state to raise a family?

    ,

What state is best in raising a family from the roots on up? My ideal concern is to raise our child(ren) from Pre-K to High School (and beyond if possible) in an Islamic school where they teach dean, and meet the state's core class curriculum (math, sciences, etc). Are there any well-known institutions, and if so, where are they located?

I'm aware that Chicago is highly populated in terms of Muslims, but, I do not know much about the schools there, and I am requesting first-hand experience from my brothers here on the forum.

In my opinion it is Chicago. There are so many Islamic Schools over here. So many scholars and shuyukh. So many masajids every-where alhumdulillah. A lot of zabiha-halal places to eat (but got to be careful and check with the ulema). So many programs every weekend. Just an amazing place. Also Shaykh Fusus lives here (though I haven't met him, insha Allah soon) lol.

In second place I have to say Dallas. Not as many deobandi ulema there, heavily salafi. However, one thing I love about Dallas is that every-one gets along. If you are looking to raise a family I say move to Irving or Plano. They both have a really nice new looking masjid. Also there is a charter school near Irving and it teaches really good fusha Arabic. Though it isn't an Islamic School, 90% of the students are Muslim MashAllah.

I lived in both places, currently living in Chicago. Hands down though nothing compares to Chicago. If not any of these places then I would maybe say Toronto, Canada. Heard a lot of good things about it.

Masha'Allah I hear so many good things about Chicago and certain areas of Texas. What are some of the best places to go for Jumah in Chicago?

Well it depends. If you like to go to hear an urdu bayaan then I would say the best place to go is to Masjid-Ul-Islam in Elgin, IL. The masjid was just recently finished and is beautiful!!! MashAllah. (Elgin is basically a suburb of Chicago, but technically it isn't).

Another hot spot is Islamic Foundation. They give all their khutbas in English. I usually go here because it is the closest to me, but it isn't my first preference. Islamic Foundation is probably the best or second best masjid in all of Chicago. It is really nice looking MashAllah. It is more salafi orientated though (just thought I might put that out there). It is located in Villa Park which is in the suburbs of Chicago. This masjid probably has the best accomodations for ladies, making it very popular.

There is also Jamia Masjid actually in Chicago. Bayaan is given in urdu I believe (not really sure). When this masjid is complete, then it might even be the best masjid in all of Chicago insha Allah. Very tablighi orientated. It is right on devon, so you can get really good food right afterwards. However, lady section is very small. Devon is like mini India lol. So many restaurants and desi clothing store. A must visit place.

There is also Makki Masjid. Very nice looking masjid. I don't know about lady accomodation. Run by gujus (I believe). I haven't been there for jumuah so couldn't tell you much more. It is located in Chicago also.

There is also Downtown Islamic Center (DIC), right in heart of Chicago. It is in a building, but they have made it really beautiful. I think it is like 4 floors MashAllah. I think they have good accomodations for ladies. All speeches are in English to the best of my knowledge.

There are too many masjids to name, but it all depends what type of masjid you are looking to go to. There are a couple of other really nice masjids like Mec and Potter Masjid. However, I don't really go there. The masjid are really nice though and I believe a good amount of accomodation for ladies.

If you let me know specifically what you kind of masjid you are looking to go, I can better direct you. You have a lot of variety over here.

I'm looking for a place where I could hear a nice English khutbah and have close access to an Halal eatery afterwards.

In that case your best bet is to go to Islamic Center of Chicago (ICC) and see who is giving the Jumah khutba. http://www.icconline.org/

It's not a very big masjid (one of the smaller ones). The first jumah khutba is in english and the second one is only in arabic.

Devon is really close by, which is the place where you will get really good food. Devon is our mini Jackson Heights if you ever been there

I have heard a lot about Chicago, too. But then again, we're talking about choices, and any city that has a large Muslim population will have choices.
