    Default ANSWERED: Two questions, Insha"Allah..

I have two questions which I'm hoping someone could clarify for me, Insha'Allah.

    1) When men and women attend Islamic events/lectures and there is no direct separation, how exactly should they sit? Side by side (men on left and women on right), or men in front and women in back? Is there any reference for this?

    2) If I'm correct, there is a hadith about Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas (radiallahu ta'ala anhu), about his journey to attain as much knowledge about the Prophet, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, as he could. Is there anyone who has the hadith in Arabic as well as English? Also, is there an Arabic proverb at the end of the Hadith? I'm a bit confused.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Jazaumullahu Khayran.

    Assalamu alaikum wr wb

I dont know if there is any reference to it, though depends on the setting of the location its in. Some would let the men be on the left side and then the women on the right side, and then some other places would prefer men in the front and women in the back. Now if the hall is very, very big than the 1st one would be better for them so the women can see the talk too especially if the person is writing something on a board and we're suppose to take notes or if they are showing a slideshow presentation or video.
But if its in a masjid then its better the women are in the back and men are in the front like a khutbah time or in times of the prayer way so then when it is time to pray you really dont have to do much except stand up and line up.

im sure in some places they have a full curtain seperating the two, though sometimes this is good during the khutbah time when the person is giving a speech but if its a class lecture on where a person is learning but also taking notes they should be able to see the person giving the speech, the imam, alim, scholar or sheikh thus if you have a curtain they wont be able to see what he's explaining or writing down on a board if he is. Sometimes this might be ok but sometimes there are times when they are talking about something and yet you cant understand it, yet you hear brothers laughing because you know he is explaining it then showing it with his hands.

Why do you need a curtain? I severely doubt that anyone is going to hit on a member of the opposite sex in a mass islamic public environment. It could add to the humour value if they do though..

Coo. I'd recommend miswaks to tap the malefactors lightly.

Plus its harsh not to have a curtain when there are niqaabi sisters who need to take a breather and take thier niqaab off for the duration of the talk/class...

that's the main place that they'll do that and their excuse will be "but im looking for so and so." yet no name is given, and when you ask ok why dont you tell me who you're looking for and i'll check for you. They wont answer and just keep looking, it's because they're out looking around for mates to be.

Raeesa> true lots of sisters whom I know that do niqab or sometimes that dont do it are required to wear the niqab at certain lectures arent used to wearing it all the time so if the masjid is hot and no a/c is running a curtain would help so they can take it off for a bit then slip it back on when the curtain is lifted. For me with my severe allergies/asthma i cant even do niqab and at some lectures i go where its obligatory to wear one i cant simply because of this, so i end up sitting in the far back and keeping my head down as i listen...
