Assalamu alaikum bro.
Welcome to the forums.
Usually even after conversion its better not to change the fathers name. You have many famous converts like Abdur Rahman Green, Hamza Yusuf Hanson etc etc. They all kept their Fathers name or family name intact. Hope this helped you. Do ask more doubts if you have any.

jazak'Allah khair abdul, I don't wish to hide my ancestry at all, I come from a noble and respected family for what its worth. but I would like to just keep my name timothy gibson as it already translates perfectly like I said into Abdullah Bin Gib
I really can't understand why people like or feel they should change their name after converting to Islam.
Can't you be muslim and names John ?
The Arabic translation of " Jesus " is "Eissa" and it is a common name for muslims.
Please tell me one reason that you feel you have to change your name?
Religion is about the belief (heart ) not about the name.
Really curious to know your thinking
