Sis high hopes i just tried it two minutes ago (talking with a bottle cap in my mouth). Try it out, and you'll see that its totally crazy. If you have to talk on the phone like that, in all probability, the person will feel obliged to rush straight to your house and make sure that you never had a stroke or swallowed your tongue.

Pretending that you have a lisp just makes you laugh at yourself while talking.

Chomping chappies make you sound ''street''.

Screaming into the phone is not becoming of a muslim.

Tho, i do understand your point. I think its best to just be as official and formal as possible when talking to any man =)

I wish i could hear what you sound like; it's probably not that bad. You can also try talking with a fake stuffed nose, a fake bad cold, or just pretend you have a bottle cap in your mouth. I'm sure others can come up with even better alternatives to having a bottle cap in ones mouth. Barak Allah ta'aala my little sis

Yes, but all the items you have listed are an undisputable part of Islam. So it does not matter whether adopting sunnah and fardh acts such as istinja, the beard, hijab, etc are considered strange by non-Muslims because they are a part of our deen as advocated by the Quran and practised by the Prophets and companions and we will continue to practice them, regardless of what anyone thinks or how silly we feel or how necessary/unnecessary people assume them to be. Putting a bottle cap in your mouth to make your voice sound strange when answering the phone is not a sunnah or nafl act so it's completely separate issue. Making yur voice unattractive and using a straight forward tone is sufficient. How many people would actually buy and use a TH6000 without feeling a bit foolish ?

Step on a piece of lego. I guarantee that will make your voice ugly. This happened to my friend once right before she answered the telephone. My husband was quite scared.

Great to hear the sisters trying their best to follow Islam. On a sidenote, remember such bottle cap etc are choking hazards, be careful.

May Allah reward you all and make it easy for all of us. Ameen.

If people’s mockery of us when it comes to the fardh and sunnah doesn’t bother us, then why should we care if people mock us because we change our voices for the sake of Pleasing Allah SWT even if it’s not obligatory?

Bro Shaybs point of “strange” being a relative term still stands my sister even if we consider cases unrelated to the deen. Look at, for instance, eastern and western cultures. Eating cats is considered strange (not to mention a violation of animal rights) in the west whereas in China, it may be an exquisite delicacy. The mere fact that something is strange does not make it good or bad. In fact the best things can be considered strange as bro Shuayb showed with his examples of istinjaa, hijab, etc.

Hmmm....Would you still feel foolish and strange buying a TH6000 if everyone were buying it? Or would you feel strange for not buying one my sister? Barak Allah ta'aala my wonderful sister.

new times of fitnah mean new challenges for both practising men and women...i advocate full niqab for the women and the change in tone of voice in front of non-mehram men

this is specially true for some female preachers and scholars:
    1. dr. farhat hashmi: niqab + least attractive voice (its not ugly. its just not attractive)
    2. ustaadha sobia: no idea on niqab or voice but registered my mom for the zaynab acdemy online course and got to know she doesnt wants non-mehram men to hear her voice even! subhan Allah

and then you have sister yasmin mogahed
i frequently encounter her 'videos' on facebook and it just annoys me a LOT. i mean she needs to hide her face and really really MAN her voice. they are both fitnah m sorry to say. does anyone here know how to contact her?please send my message.
i fear women might take her as an example of a practising muslimah and go about creating fitnah. have mercy on us guys

for the guys who are obviously reading this thread:
you dont want to leave it all for the women do you?fulfill your duty by repelling chatty non-mehram non-hijabi (or otherwise) by looking super angry all the time. talk in monotones. scowl like some super model (works wonders) whenever women are around you. dont look. if sometimes through your male friends you hear that women think you would kill them if they talk to you then be proud.
