Default Salat is from the Greatest of the Gates of Happiness (Shaykh al-'Alawi al-Maliki)

From the Sunan, Rasul Allah would when a situation would arise pray.

Salat is the sustainer of rizq, the the perserver of health, a whitener of faces, brings happiness to the self, a elimintator of laziness, an increase of strength, expander of the breast, a lamp to hearts, and a keeper of ni'ma.

Thats just a little excerpt from the many benefits of Salat from the book Abwab al-Faraj "The Doors to Happiness" by Shaykh al-'Alawi al-Maliki (Rahmihullah).

    Jazakallahu ta'ala Khayrun.

Many of these benefits are reaped by Dhikr too as in the book of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya, 'Invocation of God'. He gives many more benefits as well. In to the hundreds.
    Salaam.
By spending the nights awake, do not presume
That you have attained the ranks of the Awliya
Brother, a dog spends its night awake on guard,
It remains awake in exchange for a small morsel of food,
Whilst you have recieved thousands of blessings,
The dog has outdone you, O Faqir, hang your head in shame,
Erase yourself until effaced, O Faqir, efface yourself until erased!

Jazak Allah Khayr for that post. I have to say that the book of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziya, 'Invocation of God' subhana Allah is absolutely amazing. It's an excellent book.
