    @maaz

I know that you mean well and I'm reasonably sure that any mischaracterization that has occurred or errors in the logic of your argument are unintentional so please don't take this post the wrong way, but

Brother, you are mischaracterizing the discussion. I am trying to refrain from continuing the discussion on this thread but posts like your's are making it difficult.

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead but I came across this other thread:

    http://maniacmuslim.com/forums/index...-program-back/

My God, even 4 years ago TWO YEARS of the shariahprogram was only $265! now it's gone up to one year for $1400!

how quickly things are changing all around us....money is becoming more and more of a barrier to knowledge.

i feel sooooooo sad right now

Sorry I have to be a bit blunt.

People take huge loans from banks for secular education, no ones complaining.

But when learning arabic becomes costly, everyones going crazy. Have some Husn Al Dhan people. This course might be his only income, he too has a family to feed and has to pay salary for his employees. Lets pray that people with alternate income come to this field of teaching, so that the costs will be low. Eg: Imam Abu Hanifa did cloth trading and had a lot of income, he even gave stipend to his students. This may not be the case for most of the teachers now. Most of the Islamic scholars don't have a proper secular degree so no other income for them. May Allah preserve the ulema of this Deen. ameen.

seconded. I don't know what it was like 4 years ago; probably the material has improved a lot since then. I paid around $500 for the first semester last year, but unfortunately wasn't able to keep up due to other commitments. I'm still trying to catch up and inshallah start semester 2 soon. I have no regrets. The material is amazing, and I really did learn more in the first few weeks than I had in years prior. I admit, sometimes the marketing efforts come across as tacky and commercialized, but I can overlook that. As for the free material is available, it is just not up to the level of SP.

I have the madinah books...I got very little benefit out of them. I also have some secular books for modern standard...also not very useful.

He looked the situation over, listened to the machine, checked some switches and gauges, then went to his tool box. He took a hammer and hit the machine lightly in a certain spot…and it immediately started running beautifully.

He then submitted a bill for $1,000, which made the factory owner figuratively hit the ceiling! He demanded an itemized bill.

The expert took back the bill, wrote on it for a moment, then handed it back to the factory owner.

    This is what it said:

    Item #1 Hitting the machine… $10.00
Item #2 Knowing where to hit…$990.00
We will build on this to show the other side of the scene. Something to lighten up

The Machine breaks down once again. The Manager decides not to call the same expert and get the machine running. He will have to shell out $1,000.00 again just for knowing where to hit.

The Manager thinks smart. He looks up on the internet to check for any institute where he can learn How to Hit. Bingo! La Madhabis to the rescue. Joins Al HowtoHit Institute. $1,000.00 for a weekend course.

The Manager is impressed by the sight of all sorts of hammers. The Instructor welcomes them and gives a brief overview of the course. The students will be taught how to hit the hammer, every one of them.

The course turns out to be fun and amusing. The manager gets to try out every hammer out in the market. Sledgehammer, Jackhammer, Claw Hammer, Club Hammer, Power Hammer etc.

At the end of the course, the manager feels proud of his achievement. He is all pumped up and calls the expert who fixed the machine earlier, to show him that two can do the job.

The expert takes a seat and makes himself comfortable to witness the amusement. The Manager starts off hammering each and every part of the machine. He tries all the available hammers, but the machine would just not start. When the manager gives up, the whole factory has been hammered to the ground.

He goes to the expert and questions him 'What went wrong?'. The expert replied 'You learned How to Hit the Hammer. What you didn't learn was Where to Hit the Hammer?'

Moral: Every discipline and science have their own experts. Li kulli fanir Rijal.

That's a fair point brother Amr, but even western institutes make concessions for those who genuinely cannot afford the course fees. It's too simplistic to suggest (as is done by SP advertising) that paying huge amount = indicator of strong commitment. How many thousands of ulema have we read about (including our beloved Prophet) that lived lives of poverty, they far outnumber those few you point out who have money. The point being charge those who can afford it sure but show some compassion to the many sincere students who cant.
