Default A debate with an Atheist has shaken my already weak belief. Help me.

Hello, I'm new and have already posted previous threads but it's seems that everything is happening to me in one go.

I want to believe, I truly do. And I felt nothing could strengthen my belief more than to witness a debate between a devout muslim and an athiest, hoping that Islam came out on top. But unfortunately, my sister didn't have enough knowledge to prove this athiest wrong.

Would it be okay for me to copy and paste a conversation that I had with him that took place on facebook? (Moderators) It's long but clear and I'd love to hear any opinions on any of the statements produced.

Sister, could you please list some things that you already feel strongly about?

Honestly, after the conversation I had. I don't know what I feel strongly about. The athiest, who once was a muslim, has shattered everything. He's, with confidence, given me so much evidence that the Quran isn't authentic etc and I wish so much that I could argue back. But I can't.

You really shouldn't be arguing/debating with an atheist or anyone else for that matter until you become grounded in your imaan and deen.

There's a thread on sunniforum called 'clearest rational argument of the existence of the Creator' (or something like that) as well as many other threads with valuable input by the username (mufti) Instuctor on the issue of atheism.

I am not particularly interested in the conversation you or your sister had with the atheist (there are all sorts of such 'conversations' all over the net). I am more interested in knowing what it is that you do believe in. Why else would you be here if you didn't have even a bit of belief?

[Edit: I agree with post #4.]

Alright, thank you. I know, it's just that every basic rational argument of existence of the Creator that I already knew has been shattered by this person.

My Mum prays so passionately every day. I want to see what she sees. And from the knowledge of the Quran that I do have, I believe that if everyone followed those Islamic laws, it would save a lot of pain and hurt, jealousy and greed.

Well, there's a first time for everything....

First link is the article and discussion, second link is to a debate between a Muslim scholar and an atheist. You might need weeks if not months to digest all of it. Enjoy.

This is brilliant. It's what I needed. I don't care if it takes me years, but if it gets me there in the end, then I'm grateful.

You have belief and it sounds like you are passionate about justice. Don't let needless arguments sway you. Take some time to look over old threads here - stick to ones that are basic and over-time work your way up. Look for the guidance of a teacher and... Have you approached your mother for guidance? Have you asked her about her passion?
