Default Converting to Islam soon - would like help!

    Salaam,

I am converting soon Inshallah. My husband is from Bangladesh and we have been together for 10 years, married for 6. We met very young, and so I have learnt a lot about Islam through his family and friends, and doing research myself.

I feel that it is now time for me to convert. I wanted to do it when I felt ready, and am happy that this time is now.

I was wondering if there were any other people thinking of converting, or who have recently or born muslims that would like to help (sisters)

I live in North London, and would like to form a friendship with a sister, who can come shopping with me for abayas and hijabs (I have some hijabs ready) and other modest clothing. And Eid clothing etc.

Although I have my sister in laws and friends, they never invite me to go shopping with them even though I ask, and don't feel confident to go alone. And would very much like some company, and Inshallah form a lasting friendship. I don't have many friends, I can count them all on one hand, and I have known them for a long time, but non of them are muslim.

A neighbour is kindly taking me to recite the shahadah at the Regent's Park mosque when I am ready which Inshallah the end of this month I will be.

Sisters, if you would like to help or make a new friend, I would like to hear from you.

    Wa alaikumsalam,

Welcome to Islam its good that you want to make some new friends with the muslim sisters but its a bit hard to find friends on forums I think. I would suggest you sign up for some classes on Islam at the Mosque to learn and at the same time InshaAllah make friends with the other sisters who attend the class.

InshaAllah sisters in the forum can help you out.

P.s. You don't have to wait till the month end to say the shahadah. You can say it now and again in the mosque later also. Its better you don't wait for the good things

Saying Shahada(bearing witness) in arabic :

"Ash hadu anlaa ilaaha illAllah, wa Ash hadu anna Muhammadu rasool ullah."
Meaning: I bear witness there is no God but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his Messenger.

Please don't concern yourself with the belief I was brought up in. If it was an issue, I wouldn't be married.

I know, as does my husband's family, who muslims can and cannot marry.

I'm surprised you think my husband's family would over see something like that, and the Imam that married us.

My thread is concerning exactly what I posted, nothing more, nothing less.

Do not take offence to what I have written, it is hard to read how a person is speaking. And I am not intentially being rude, so I apologise if I cause offence.

Congratulation Sister on your conversion; AlHamdulillah, may Allah keep you on this path untill the very end and grant you jannah with your family ameen

i think your best bet to find friends as a brother allready suggested is to join a sisters group/gathering in your local mosque; if they dont have one there, they do in the East London Mosque in whitechappel; that is a bit far from you but if you can make it there at least once a week, you'd be able to meet some Bangladeshi sisters there too that would love to befreind you and make you feel all the more welcome to this beutifull religion and culture

wishing you all the best for the future, salamualikum and bala thako!

ps: keep looking for friends for it is good to have good friends, but at the same time tell some of your inlaws, c'mon dont be lazy, lets go a shopping, me wants to buy hijab... and you can buy one too!; this might get them in the mood!

Thank you brother Abu-Rayhan. Yes the mosque in Whitechapel is a bit far, I've been there a few times.

Only one of my sister in laws wear hijab. I just don't think I am their cup of tea lol. I think I'm too boring for them, and to be honest (I say this to my husband also) I don't see why we should always make the effort, sometimes it has to be a two way thing. We could go months without talking to them, we always have to make the first move, silly really. So think it's best to venture and not be so dependent on them.

My neighbour goes to mosque near our house every friday, and she has invited me to go with her whenever I want, I will take her up on that offer, its a small mosque, but I have to make a start somewhere, and that way I will know her at least, and she will probably know sisters there as she goes every friday, so she can introduce me.
