Why are they specifying Dammaj? Are they from Yemen or do they have a special attachment towards the people there? Am I missing something here?

It's a madkhali salafi stronghold - that's why. So if Ikhwanis and Qutbis get attacked, to help them is to share in their deviance. But if the madkhalis get attacked, to help them is to do jihad.

The Madhkalis have their Dar al Hadith there which is under attack by Yemeni Rafidis. Now, the Madhkalis have opposed all Mujahidin in the 4 corners of the globe for some reason or the other but are calling for help and Jihad because they need it.

This might be reaching the level of "ranting", but here goes:

Even though these brothers say that they are united on the path of salaf etc. etc., in reality, I have found them to be the most partisan of people. E.g. After salaams, the first question you will usually get asked is "Which scholar do you follow or listen to?". The intention behind these questions is to place you in a certain category. They hate all other groups of salafiyya - they even have different labels for them - jihadi, qutbi, hizbi, ikhwani. And if I am honest, there are even splits at the masjid level e.g. the Brixton masjid are at odds with the Birmingham masjid etc. Very soon this will descend into into the "shaykh" level i.e. one madkhali shaykh and his students vs. another.

As for the Ash'aris and Maturudis - they are all jahmis. Some of their so-called ulama even went as far to say that it is obligatory to burn books of Imam ibn Hajr and Imam Nawawi - until they were of course gunned down by the senior Ulama in Saudi (may Allah protect them). May Allah protect us from such a fitna.

Anyway - rant over - main point being - stay away from partisanship!

just as an aside I recently met Shaykh Abdullah hakim Quick (hafidhahullah) a great scholar and a graduate of madina uni, so most would assume he's ont he salafi side of things. He came to town for an Almaghrib course on Ilsmaic history in the maghreb, spain, and the americas.

In my discussion with him it was clear that he condemned discussion of aqeedah on hairsplitting issues (istiwa, yadd) and condemned all those who call for the burning of Ibn Hajir's book's because he was an "ashari deviant" saying something along the lines of: they were out of control.

This scholar showed great respect for the ulema of the madhabs and the asharis/maturidis (though of course he has differences with them). and quoted maulana Abul Hasan ali nadwi more than once in his lectures.

just goes to show that some "salafis" are very agreeable, kinda like Shaykh Musa Al-Shareef.

I sort of was going through a phase of relaxation because the amount of hair-splitting discussion has been quite low for some time here at SF. . But the reality in the world out there is a different matter altogether. We Muslims get solace (taqwiat) when we see another Muslim but the amount of division out there is really scaring. . May Allah(SWT) save us from divisive fitnahs.
