I dont understand your first question, the cost of what exactly?
women can shop there is no law against it but the women in tarim dont shop because its the duty of the men to provide. & its really hot so most wome prefer to stay indoors. women usualy only shop after asr, when its cooler. there is the upper part of the souk which the women usualy shop at, here you find women clothing, kitchen machinery & jewelry. most of the shop owners are men though but lately there were concerns about men working in the underwear sections or perfume counters- so now they have women working in those departments in many shops. there is also a thursday after noon womens only market just down the road from dar mustafa. there is an old lady that stocks up on everything in her house & many women go to her because they dont need to take a taxi & you go to her house. many women shop in groups, they never walk alone. I use to take my wife wenever she wanted to go to the souk unless she whent to the old ladies house (Umm Akram)

there is a school but your kids would have to learn in arabic & there is a waiting list, you wait for over a year sometimes.

they would take your kids. kids learn very quickly so they dont mind. usualy it would take a kid 6 months without any lessons because they learn while playing in the street. & the admin at the dar know this. the school belongs to dar mustafa. its a secular school within dar mustafa. children will have to find another teacher for islamic studies. you dont want to go to a government school, they have been closed for over a year now on strike. most westerners however home school the kids.
the waiting list is long & it could be wors now because the government schools are closed. so my advise to you is to get a home schooling kit from your education department in Oz & carry on that way.
