@saslams, can you give us any more information?

    How long were you there?
Did you study in dar ul mustafa proper or did you just learn arabic?
What was your impression of the education going on in darul mutafa?
What do you mean tarim has more to offer than just dar ul mustafa?

Did you think the quality was good? There seem to be a lot of students going there these days, does this impact the quality?
What were the teachers like? Did they have love for deen or was it just like a job to them?
What sort of arabic teaching do they do? Is it using the madina books or something like that, akin to how they teach arabic in fajr markas in egypt? Do they emphasis grammar and reading?

    jazakallahu khayran

I was in tarim for about a year only, hoping to go back.
When I arrived in Tarim they were moving all the badr students into dar Mustafa, where it still is today. I however dropped out because of a number of reasons & had private lessons. I did other classes in fiqh, tazkiyah, tajweed, nahwu
Dar Mustafa is run in a very old traditional method that is very difficult to get use to if you into the university form of madrasah. There are no desks, teachers sits at a pillar & all students sit around him. There are like 10 of these groups at any given time & you will have to just tune into your teachers voice so that you don’t get confused. Classes & lessons tend to drag (a small book like safinah takes you more than 6 months to study with a teacher) but you gain a great understanding.
Tarim is an amazing place there are other madrasahs too. & you will literally live in a place where all your neighbors are big ulama. Even the children of tarim will teach you a thing or two.

No the amount of students dont affect the quality. Dar Mustafa isn’t full at the moment because the requirements are very high to get in, you would be sent to one of the sister schools in different cities. If you don’t have an intention to do the entire program then you would be left to stay in dar Mustafa & they would arrange a personal tarteeb based on what you know. Some students actually get one on one tuition.
Many of the teachers are students themselves. Most of them teach & don’t want a salary, last I heard they were earning $50 per month, even this they didn’t want so they would do some admin or cleaning instead-get paid for that & then teach for free. One of the best teachers is Sayid Mujtabah from Indonesia who was only about 20 when I met him but he was teaching Aqeedah, he was then employed by habib umar to be on the research council for fatawah, he is only 23 or so now. He is also still a student.
They don’t really stress on grammar much in the Arabic program, you would do the little that is in the book or reader, you would do ajrumiyah in dar Mustafa, I think first year, then you do mutammimah & I don’t know what the next book is. You also do Balagha.

    Assalamu 3alaikm Akhi,

Im also from Sri Lanka. I need some information regarding the recruitment process in Dar Al-Mustafa. Im making this inquiry on behalf of my friend Mr. Mafais, who has completed his Aalim course of 8 years recently in Sri Lanka. He needs to get into Dar al-Mustafa. So what is the procedure? Did you find the way to get in to Dar Al-Mustafa?
Since he isnt having any internet facility at the moment, i have to inquire this on his behalf.

I will try to get the contact details of a Sri Lankan sayid who stays in habib umars house.
depending on what your friend studied in his 8 years. if the tarteeb of his uloom is similar to that of Kerala madaris & he's arabic is good then they would move him into university level. if he did some shafi fiqh he would be put in coledge or high school but if the uloom was a hanafi uloom & he is a shafi then they would send him right back to the first class. if for example he did alot of hadith then they would take that into consideration & he would not need to repeat & he could use this time to catch up on other subject.

    Thats great brother.
Generally every Madrasa here in Srilanka is Shafi and almost all of us are Shafi in fiqh. And he is a Shafi as well. And the madrasa which he studied is founded by a shayk from Kerala. I'll talk to him and let you know any further details if u need any. If you could get the contact no. the of Srilankan student in Dar al-Mustafa it would be easy for us inquire.

Could you direct me to his FB page?
What about the cost of studying and accommodation there in Dar al-Mustafa?
what do students do to their food?
Because my friend is a extremely poor guy. So either he has to work for his meal there or he should get a scholarship.
    Are they offering any scholarship?

    Brother SASLAMS assalamu alaikum,

I've made the inquiry to daralmostapha@gmail.com and i got the reply as

    salam alaykum

Moulvi Mafais's application has been accepted. Please transfer the visa fee asap.

Those living in Dar al-Mustafa pay $180/ year for meals.

    A year’s residence permit costs around $75.

Every student must either have a return ticket to their country of origin or pay a deposit on the value of such a ticket.

There is a chance of a scholarship inshallah. See first if there is anyone who will help in Sri Lanka

    duas
And before i proceed further i need to contact a Sri Lankan student there. Please, ITS URGENT. I need to get more information from him like what are the available prospects there, how to get there and so on..
And the email address which is provided here, daralmostapha@gmail.com, is it the official email of Dar al-Mustafa?
Because since they asked to transfer the visa processing cost, i need to make sure that im in contact with authorised person responsible for the recruitment process.

The e-mail is authentic, if you want further details you can contact Seyyed Alawi who is a student from Sri-Lanka studying at Dar al Mustafa. Please let me know your e-mail to forward his contact number & e-mail. Also please let me know your friend's contact details as well.
