Shaykh Mufti Kamaluddin Ahmed (damat barakatuhum), will insha Allah tour the UK and Norway between the dates of 12 April - 7 May 2012. Insha Allah, many programmes will be broadcast live via www.islamicspirituality.org for anyone unable to attend in person.

Programmes will be added to this thread as they are confirmed, insha Allah.

Shaykh Mufti Kamaluddin Ahmed was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City. He recieved a BA in Political Science and Arab & Islamic Civilization from the University of Chicago. Shaykh Kamaluddin then spent many years in Pakistan, studying full-time the classical disciplines of Islamic learning including tafsir of the Qur’an, Hadith, Arabic grammar, law and legal theory. He recieved the ‘alimiyyah degree as well as formal authorization to transmit legal opinion (ifta).

From 2005-2010, he was a lecturer in Islamic Intellectual History, Legal Theory, Spirituality and Ethics at one of Pakistan’s leading universities. Currently, he is a postgraduate student in Islamic Intellectual History and Legal Theory at the University of Oxford.

For over seventeen years, Shaykh Kamaluddin has consistently remained in the close company of the highly respected Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad, and was granted ijaza by him in tasawwuf (islamic spirituality) in 2002. Since then, he has continually tutored seekers on the path to becoming closer to Allah.

Shaykh Kamaluddin divides his time between the UK and Pakistan, guiding students and delivering lectures at masajid, universities and institutions of learning.

The Shaykh and his respected wife have also established Zaynab Academy, an Islamic educational institute which offers free online courses for women the world over.

Has anyone ever done the nafl itkaaf with mufti kamludeen? What does the nafl itikaaf with mufti kamaludeen consist of?

I'm sure others can write more, but I've done i'tikaf a number of times in these programmes alhamdulillah. It is very beneficial. Many times we hear a bayan, make du'a etc but then once we leave the masjid, we are back where we started. So I think the best aspect of the i'tikaf programmes is that we get to retain the blessings in a preserved environment. You only truly realise the good effects when you leave the Masjid and the company of the pious.

The programme varies but normally consists of a Majlis which is more informal with Q&A or more specific topics are covered. Food (sometimes!), sleep (if you can ignore the snoring....), individual Zikr/tilawah etc. Tahajjud, Fajr, then another Majlis after Fajr which usually finishes around half an hour after Ishraq. Then either sleep then breakfast or breakfast and no sleep depending if it's summer/winter months and how much you manage to sleep through the night before!

Anyway I encourage everyone to participate. There's always good company, a good environment etc.

By the way, the other thing is that Shaykh usually gives time to meet people individually in these i'tikaf so it's a great opportunity for brothers. I've noticed that if the night is short like Summer, then this takes place after Ishraq. Also, Shaykh prioritises by first meeting people that he hasn't met before (or if there's an urgent need) so there is no difficulty in meeting at all insha Allah because everyone will normally get asked if they want to discuss anything in-person.

All praise to Allah for making this event successful on all levels . The masjid was packed even though we had only 3 days to advertise it, it was like a saturday night crowd but on a monday night, and all those who attended were truely impressed and overcome with happiness on seeing and being in the company of shaykh and listening to this absolutely awesome talk.

I recommend everyone to attend and be in the company of the shaykh, guarenteed you'll not be disappointed or your money back

Even after the talk Shaykh met people, answered and gave advice individually, the local brothers were amazed because they have never seen this, normally people do musaffa with the ulama but shaykh gave everyone individual time which was heartfelt and appreciated by those present
