Allow me to indulge in a little distraction.

For last few days I am enjoying the idea that it is good thing that Hamza Tzortzis is having a go at the atheists. Can we we say that atheist bashing is the new wave? It sort of has a pleasure to it - I hope it is not sinful.

It is gratifying to the ego. Atheists have no philosophical leg to stand on, so to speak, so once you provide them with clear rational proof, they have no way to respond. Most of them haven't the slightest awareness that all their criticisms were addressed by the greeks, and christian scholastics ages ago.

Can you name some of these scholastics for reference?

Only some one versed in philosophy could divulge it.
But now I am worried because of that ego thing.
That is one trip that one do without.

Thomas Aquinas, Duns Scotus, St. Anselm, Abelard, Bonaventure; all having a firm grounding in platonic and aristotelian philosophy for theology.

Scholasticism was the equivalent of ashari orthodoxy in christendom, basically catholic philosophy. Just as asharism is 'sunni philosophy', a reasoned exposition and defense of the faith. There are a lot of similarities between these two, specifically with reference to aristotelianism. Nowadays they are called Thomists, followers of thomas aquinas.

Modern philosophy and science were direct rebellions against it.

Atheism does contain shirk. I don't think this is a controversial idea. also the definitions he used seemed fine to me.

Allama Qurtubi, the Quran commentator, offers a detailed definition of Shirk in his Tafsir, al-Jami’ li Ahkam al-Qur’an, which Pir Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari (ra) has cited in Zia al-Quran (p. 351-2, vol I).
He writes that there are three different stages or forms of Shirk, and all three and forbidden (Haram).
    ....
(ii) To consider another being other than Allah can perform and create certain actions independently (without Allah), even if the person does not believe that that person/being is a God.
Atheists think they do everything independently without Allah.
