Default Best book for Hidaayatun Nahw revision? Closest HN equivalent?

    As salaamu alaykum.

Which book would you consider best for the purpose of revising Hidaayatun Nahw after completely covering the text?

Furthermore, is there any book that you would consider an "equivalent" of Hidaayatun Nahw in the sense that it covers roughly the same material with the same (not much more nor much less) detail that one could read/study instead of doing Hidaayatun Nahw again BEFORE going on to a more advanced text?

When answering, assume a student that has ALREADY COMPLETED Hidaayatun Nahw but who, for one reason or another, cannot or does not wish to reread or restudy the text right away and so is looking for another text, or an "equivalent", to use to revise the book, so please no suggestions about how one ought to reread Hidaayatun Nahw and that "there is no better book" and such because none of that is being disputed.

Furthermore, I'm interested in both classical and contemporary works and would prefer to get suggestions along both lines insha'allah.

    Looking forward to your responses.

    Jazakallahu Khair.

    Wa'salaam.

I would recommend Mutammiat al-Ajaruymiyyah. The matn itself would be good if one were studying it with a teacher or audio recordings, but I think the commentary of Qatr an-Nada is easier than the commentaries on the Mutammimat. If the student never studied a commentary before, it might pay to go back to one of the commentaries of the Ajarumiyyah. I think Dahlan is an interesting commentary, but of course there are many to choose from. I'm not sure if that can be called equivalent, but it would be beneficial nonetheless.

My brother, about which text's status as an "equivalent" to Hidaayatun Nahw are you not sure? I'm a little confused.

My understanding is that Hidayatun Nahw is one of the more basic texts that covers all of the most important aspects of grammar. I think that Mutammimat al-Ajarumiyyah and Qatr an-Nada could also fit this description and that's why I said they are equivalent. I don't think they are the same in every respect though. Qatr an-Nada is probably more advanced than Hidaytun Nahw and isn't easy, but nevertheless it could probably still be described as one of the easier books that covers all of the essential grammar points.

In the introduction to Qatr an-Nada, Ibn Hisham says:
    كافية لمن اقتصر عليها
(It is) sufficient for the one who limits (himself) to it.

On the other hand, I don't think the commentaries of the Ajarumiyyah cover all of the chapters in Hidaytun Nahw, so I am not sure that it can be called equivalent; however, I think they would still be beneficial as a follow up text to review Hidayatun Nahw especially for a student who has not been previously studied a commentary.

    Jazakallahu Khair for the clarification.

Anyone else care to chime in as well insha'allah?
