Question Prosthesis and transplantations from animals...halal or not?

    Assalamu aleikum,
I am reading a book about Islam and bioethics, and I had some doubts during my studies.
When an aortic or mitral valve is damaged, you can replace it with a prosthesis; there are two different kind of prosthetis, the mechanical and the biological one, and you can use one or another according to patient's condition.
Well, amond biological type, the ox's and pig's ones are the most used. Can a Muslim patient be operated with a pig's prosthesis? And what about insulin derived from pig's pancreas?
It's a very technical question, so I wait answers from experts.

    Wa salam
