A'salam A'laikum,
I'm a new muslim, how do I decide which madhab to follow? I'm only a little informed on the madhabs and I'm wondering how to decide which madhab to follow? Also, are there books that teach people how to follow a particular school of thought? Thanks in advance! Wa laikum Salam

I think you should consult with the people in your area and see which madhab is most dominant; easily accessible; and that has a lot of scholars. Generally speaking, the Hanafi madhab is a good option because of the innumerable works and texts based on it. It is also the most popular madhab in this moment in time and questions are generally easily answerable whereas the Hanbali madhab for example is at the opposite end of the spectrum; not too many works and not as popular etc. (by popular, how easy it is to get answers for...)

As the brother said, it is best to follow the madhab that is most prominent in your area. That way you have good examples of how to behave.

Couldn't agree more. Follow the madhab of the reliable imams and sheikhs among your area. That way you'll avoid differences, fitnah and conflict.
