The Grand Imam of Ka'aba, Sheikh Khalid Bin Ali al Ghamdi, known as “Imam-e-Haram”, arrived on a seven-day visit here on Tuesday. Dr. al Ghamdi was received at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport here by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Ahmed Hasan, Labour Minister Waqar Ahmed Shah and prominent clerics including the Imam of Aishbagh Idgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, Maulana Salman Nadwi and Maulana Saeedur Rahman Nadwi were present to receive the “Imam-e- Haram”. Heads of Muslim religious organisations were also present.

Dr. al Ghamdi has come to Lucknow at the personal invitation of Maulana Salman Nadwi, an Islamic scholar at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama here. Elaborate arrangements have been made by the district administration for his stay in Lucknow.

On Wednesday, the “Imam-e-Haram” will address a congregation at the Nadwatul Ulama after leading the maghrib (dusk) prayers. The next day, he will inaugurate the F.I. Maulana Ali Mian Institute of Medical Sciences at Bani on Lucknow-Kanpur road and address a conference on global peace. The conference will be attended by Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. Dr. al Ghamdi will lead the Juma (Friday) prayers at Nadwatul Ulama on Friday and the maghrib and isha ( night ) prayers at Aishbagh Idgah.

Thereafter, he will participate in a conference organised by the Islamic Centre of India. The conference will be presided over by All-India Muslim Personal Law Board president Hazrat Maulana Syed Mohammad Rabe Hasani.

On Saturday, Dr. al Ghamdi will visit Integral University for an interaction with the students and faculty members. The “Imam-e-Haram” is scheduled to meet Mr. Akhilesh Yadav at the Chief Minister's official residence on Sunday evening before returning on Monday.

LUCKNOW: Imam Sheikh Khalid Bin Ali Al Ghamidi - the Imam of Kaba from the Holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia was in the city of Nawabs on Friday said that Muslims must conduct themselves in the way our Prophet Mohammed did when he interacted with all other communities of the world. "The conduct should be so refined and good that one is compelled to not only appreciate a Musalmaan, but also Islam, which is all about peace and brotherhood," said the Imam.

Speaking at a conference on the life of Prophet Mohammed and world peace organized by Islamic Centre of India (Firangi Mahal) at Eidgah Aishbagh on Friday evening, Imam Sheikh Khalid, said, "A Muslim should set an example for the world of how everyone and anyone can contribute towards global peace." The conference was chaired by the president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Syed Rabey Hasani Nadwi.

Prior to the conference, Imam Sheikh Khalid led the Magrib Namaaz (evening prayers) at the Eidgah which was attended by thousands of Muslims from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and other states. He appreciated the contributions of Ulema Firangi Mahali for their services towards the religion and the community and appreciated the impressive turnout at the conference. The conference took off with a welcome address by president of ICI-FM Maulana Khalid Rasheed, who is playing the host for the Imam of Kaba. Earlier in the day, the Imam led the Friday afternoon prayers at Nadwa that was attended by thousands of Muslims.

Shahi Imam, Aishbagh Eidgah (Lucknow) Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, said that his visit has helped to put a message across the community that peace is the only way of life for Muslims and that there is nothing in the world or beyond that cannot be achieved through peace.

Special arrangements were made at Nadwa to accommodate 50,000 Muslims who turned up to attend the Friday afternoon prayers. Tents were erected to cover the open space on the campus to provide shade to those offering Namaz. However by the time the Namaz began, the swelling crowd was not left with much space within the campus and hundreds of Namazi's had to offer their Namaz on the roads around Nadwa. According to the district administration, the total strength of the congregation has exceeded one lakh.

Traffic diversions were put in place on roads leading to Nadwa. The unexpectedly large gathering saw people parking their vehicles on either sides of the University road right up to the IT College crossing on one side and the Hanuman Setu Bandha Road leading to New Hyderabad locality on the other.

The gathering was attended by people not only from Lucknow, but as far as Sidharthnagar and western UP. A number of delegations from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and further down South had also reached Lucknow to participate in this event.

On Saturday, the visitor is slated to visit Integral University for an interaction with the students and faculty members. A meeting with chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is also on the Imam's schedule. The Imam may also preside over a joint congregation of Shia and Sunni communities in Lucknow on the request of top Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad.
