Brother Colonel, here is the response...
You said, Imam Ibn Katheer (RA) was a Shaf'ae and this is accepted in the Ummah but here is Imam Dhahabi (RA) confirming:

إسماعيل بن عمر بن كثير ، الإمام الفقيه المحدث الأوحد البارع عماد الدين البصروي الشافعي.
Carrying the name As-Shafi'ee does not mean that the person is a Blind-Follower or a Muqallid of Imam As-Shafi'ee.. From where did you get this Theory that if someone has As-Shafi'ee as the Suffix in his name then he is a Muqallid of Imam As-Shafi'ee..
I guess only the Ahl-e-Hadeeth will disagree with the ascription of being Shaf'ae.
The Ahle Hadith do not disagree with his name carrying the Suffix as As-Shafi'ee, but the noteworthy point is that the Deobandi Scholars accuse such a great Scholar like Ibn Kathir to be a Blind-Follower or a Muqallid of Imam As-Shafi'ee and this is a big disrespect to the Scholar.. He differed with Imam As-Shafi'ee's opinions in different places..
Likewise, The Deobandis also claim that Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani was a Muqallid of Imam As-Shafi'ee, because he too carried the suffix As-Shafi'ee in his name..
Ibn Hajar opposed Imam Shafi'i in several places such as Imam Shafi'i used to consider Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Abi Yahya Al Salmi as trustworthy while Ibn Hajar declared him as Matruk in Taqrib Al Tehzeed. This proves that he was not a muqallid of Imam Shafi'i.
More over, Ibn Hajar writes in his Fath (14/348), " This (hadith) is a prove that doing Face Veil is Obligatory for Women."
While on the other hand Imam Shafi'i rahimahullah states:
"All the woman's body is awrah with the exception of her hands and her face. The top of her feet is also awrah [Kitab Al Umm 1/89]
If he was allegedly a Blind-Follower or a Muqallid, then his attitude would be different...
