    Salaam

If I am honest, having an all you can eat buffet is against the sunnah to begin with!

But it's good to see Sam Fung taking such an initiative.

It must be implemented everywhere. A huge quantity of food is being wasted on daily basis while many are sleeping hungery somewhere nearby.

This is such a good policy! The newspaper story was soooo stupid, if anyone is a registered commenter on there please write to them!! Wasting food is a disgusting habit and the retaurant has every right to see food it has made with care to not go into the bin because people were greedy.

Hopefully more restaurants will start doing this - it is definitely a good idea. I wonder if 20 GBP is not a little excessive, but overall I support this idea.

Anyone who has seen hungry children begging in the streets has to support this idea.

That's not a new thing, it is a practice which is fairly common among Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc) type restaurants in the USA and has been going on for years. When they have a buffet, it is "all you can eat", but if you don't finish the food on your plate, they charge you for it.

Excellent idea - even if the owner may only have been worried about loss of potential income (viewing it as money down the bin when that food could've been eaten by another customer and brought in more money). In the end, less food goes to waste. Though I can't help but wonder what happens to most of the food in buffets at the end of the night... if charging 20 GBP offsets any loss, a restaurant owner who is particularly keen about money may feel better about throwing it out... or, if even more keen about money, might refrigerate and re-serve the same food... or, and lets hope this is the case, offer it to the homeless; but, with food safety regulations and depending on what it the food item is, I doubt the food would be deemed safe to re-serve to customers (for profit) and the homeless.

wasting food is one of the disease in this world today but who the heck would wanto to pay £20 fine for not finishing their food. is this some kind of a posh restaurent where the rich customers would be able to afford to pay the fine.

I completely agree with the fact that not finishing the food is indeed a wastage for the restaurant itself, but these owners need to get a grip of themselves. It's not a smart business tactic to request customers to pay for not finishing their food. What about all of the other all you can eat-buffet style restaurants that don't change any extra money for wasted food?

customers are paying in the first place for all-you-can eat buffet, and that's what it's meant to be. Since there is no policy on "all-you-can eat", technically customers can take however many food they want, because in the end, they paid for the price of the buffet anyways.

However, I would very much like if the customers finished their food, because there are certainly people out there who are deprived of food and don't even have access to clean drinking water. However, the owners of the restaurant need to assess themselves from a business perspective - because at this rate, they're going to lose customers real fast.

Maybe they should implement a policy for finishing the food you eat or hand out flyers and brochures raising awareness about the importance of finishing all of the food on your plate, but charging people extra money is a bit too extreme.
