    Default Chicago bros: Darul Qasim

    Salam

what do the good people of this forum know about this institute?

would you recomend it? it seems very interesting and has some solid teachers Mufti Hussain kamani, Hafiz Amin, Dr. Umar Faruq Abdullah.

I particularly like the idea of having Hanafis and malikis studying under the same roof, so that Hanafi students can also study maliki subjects that interest them.

I usually go there in the summers, and I'm hoping to do some post-grad studies with Maulana Amin when I'm done overseas, inshallah. We are truly blessed in Chicago.

Darul Qasim has undergrad BA programs (major in hanafi fiqh or in maliki fiqh etc.) I wonder are these "official" degrees. I know Zaytuna college has "official" degrees (tho i'm not that interested in it).

There is no lodging; you have to look for an apartment. I'm sure you could find some roommates studying there. With all due respect to Zaytuna, I don't think their staff is of the same caliber as Sh. Amin and Dr. Umar. Also, in Darul Qasim, you would graduate having gone through serious books like Hidayah, Mishkat, Nur al-Anwar, Sharh al-`Aqa'id etc. rather than coming out as a humanities major who happens to have studied a few Arabic books. That being said, although Darul Qasim has been running for several years now, this formal degree program is new, and as you know new programs always have to go through a process of trial-and-error and have to make some adjustments here and there.

BTW I am not an employee or spokesperson for Darul Qasim. It would be wise to double-check anything I said with the official website.

Hafiz Gee, its nice to see a fellow Calgarian online. I watched that video, Dr. Umar's humility in it was pretty amazing considering he has sat with some of the foremost scholars and has so many decades of learning and experience. But ya Darul Qasim and Dar ul Hikmah have it going on in the Chicagoland area. Not to mention Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar.

    likewise.

Inshallah I will pursue Islamic studies next year. Seriously considering south Africa - sadly the pakistani madrassas Darul uloom Karachi/Binoria are not an options, although it is my home country

however the program at Darul Qasim seems very interesting, as do the the teachers. and yes attending Hussain Abdussattar's tafseer and zikr gatherings wold definitely be at the top of the list of reasons to go to Chicago over SA.

what is darul hikmah exactly? ive tried to look them up but there are literally so many islamic organizations/websites called darul hikmah :O
