    Bismillah
You will find many similarities and differences with the aincent chiniese relegion like Confusionism. So you ought to feel right at home with Islam.
As far as I know Chiniese adhered to hanafi school of Jurisprudance and mainly Imam Abu Yusuf (RAH). Do not worry too much about this right now but in simple term it will make your life easy when it comes to learning religious practice.
Please go through this link below as a matter of urgency! I can't stress enough. This is a compilation of answers which was formulated to assist converts and others.

Welcome to the Islam. May Allah make it easy for you and increase our imaan.

As you've said, there are Muslims at the university that you go to. That means that a makeshift prayer area (musallah) should also be present. Speak to fellow Muslims and tell them about your conversion to Islam. many will be more than willing to help you out. Tell them that you're a foreign student. There is no requirement for you to travel an hour and a half to go to the mosque because more than likely, the other Muslims perform their congregational prayers on or near campus.

One of the most puzzling aspects about Islam to non-Muslims is the issue with music. The problem is because, as with any religion, there are loud and vocal minorities that say that they are right and others are wrong. In Islam, music is forbidden as it affects the heart. When a person is praying, a tune they remember enters their head and disrupts their contemplation. Instead, listen to recitations of the Qur'an (while reading their translations) or Islamic nasheeds in English. Yes, many are corny and state things that we think are obvious, but the fact is, many obvious things deserve to be said so that we can remind ourselves to be better people.

Volunteering is a form of sadaqah (charity). Giving charity, either with money or actions, are all praiseworthy in Islam and to increase the frequency of these actions during Ramadhan will be rewarded many times over. Since you are going to be in the US for a while, it is a great opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with Islam and you'll be able to have an easier time when you return to China and speak with your family.

May Allah make this new beginning of your life blessed and easy for you.
ياايها الذين امنوا اذكروا الله ذكرا كثيرا
