Mentalities are different depending on the people e.g. the town I live in has a totally different mentality to another town closeby even though we are all asians and some even related.

It is constant struggle brother to adjust to our environment.

My advice is not to debate with family members but try to be exemplary muslim by action and good manners. Be a caring son and and good brothers. Islam puts emphasis on good ties with family members. Remember Islam perfects manners and cultures but does not replace it.
