Question A few questions in the mind of 16 year old teenager.

    Assalamualikum brothers and sisters.
I am a 16 year old teenager, a muslim. My name is Ikqaf.
I wanted to post a few questions that has been playing on my mind all this while.

    1) I always feel an internal voice in me that always encourages me do bad stuffs and it will make me think badly of others. I always tried to ignore it but it is always there!!!
So is it my nafs or is it syaitan?? How do i get rid of it!!

    2) I always listen to music. Is it haram?

    3) How do i concentrate on my prayers because everytime when i perform prayers, i am physically doing it but my mind wanders off elsewhere!! Help!

    4) I am interested in learning about islam but where do i start? Start the Al-Quran, Hadith or other kitabs first? Is there like a structured way to learn islam?

This is all the questions that i wanted to ask for now. So please help me and guide me. Thank you for your time and sorry if i have caused inconvenience.

For whether Music is haram: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHhve...eature=related

For acquiring Islamic knowledge its best done under the guidance of a scholar. You can read books and watch lectures too, but never think we have learned enough just because we read a hadith or two. May Allah Ta'ala make it easy for you. ameen.

    brother,

I won't type a lengthy reply at the moment, Insha'Allah some others can give you more information. I will only say one single thing and you can take it for what it's worth.

Eliminate #2 completely (i.e. stop listening to Music) and #1, #3, and #4 will Insha'Allah fall into place very quickly.

    Allah knows best.

    I am not a scholar.

Thank you brother. Brother i have something to ask you, do you know what it means if i dreamt of seeing someone which i do not know in grave being totured and there is a voice that i heard and it says
"If you forsake Allah then Allah will forsake you in the hereafter".
Is it a good dream or a bad one?
My ustaz says its a good dream but i still dont understand why i dreamt about it.
Anyone who has knowledge on this, help me clarify. Thanks

    1) i dont know, but from my experience, as you learn about islam and apply it, it will eventually stop. my teacher once told me that when one is learning islam, shaiytan will try to play with them.

    2) it is HARAM, dont listen to fools who try acting like theres a difference to please themselves when they satisfy any of their desires.

3)try focusing on what you recite during salah and remember allah while praying

4)you must learn aqida first. Find some good ahlesunnah wal jama'ah teachers.

Everybody faces this issue to some degree or other. It is probably a mixture of your nafs, imagination and real waswisu. Its a test. If Iblees is trying hard with you it doesn't mean that you are bad, in fact it could mean that he sees your good potential and therefore he works extra hard to trick you and to try and keep you away from it.

Imam al-Ghazali (ra) explains that if you don't occupy your time with good your nafs will occupy it with evil -

avoid sitting in your bedroom on your own or hanging around with idiots - stay away from them,
do things for your family in the house and yard,
get a part time job for when you are not studying if you can,
do the Sunnah prayers and the Sunnah dhikr get a Sheikh and he will tell you what to do beyond that,
go with the Tabligh Jamaat because it will occupy you and educate you

Modern popular music is mostly satanic and has evil violent and sexual messages in it, beware it is a poison. It is like a hooked chain that drags the youth towards the mouth of the hellfire - don't let it pull you in.

Get rid of your music and replace it with listening to recordings of Qur'an and halal Islamic nasheeds they will make you healthy and pure InshaAllah.

    3) How do i concentrate on my prayers because everytime when i perform prayers, i am physically doing it but my mind wanders off elsewhere!! Help!
that happens to most people sometimes, especially if they are busy in their lives or if they tend to think a lot or live in their imaginations.

I know that personally if before I pray salaat I have a little rest and do some dhikr, allow my mind time to quieten and move towards thoughts of Allah instead of thoughts of the world then it is easier to focus during salaat.

you may try remembering the awful pain, horror and suffering of the pit of hell - contemplate it deeply and remember the awesome truth that the only refuge from Allah's wrath is with His mercy - InshaAllah that too will help you to focus on the prayer - I know it helps me if something else is distracting me.
