    1) Its your nafs, your lower self. Your nafs is what pulls you towards sins. Our nafs is a test that Allah has put inside of us to overcome. The Shaytaan will whisper in your heart to incite your nafs, causing you to be pulled towards sins. Once you get your nafs under control, everything else will be easy. Make plenty of dua', and whenever an evil thoughtcomes to mind immediately think of Allah.

    2) Music is Haram. Please do not listen to the people who say "theres a difference of opinion", music is definitely haram and you must give it up. When someone gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah provides him with something equally good, or better than it.

    3) Try to learn the English translation of what your reciting, it will help. If you know the English translations, then you can think of them in the back of your mind while reciting in Arabic, this will inshaAllah improve concentration in salah.

    4) Start with the basics. Aqeedah (creed) which are the basics of Islam (i.e God is one, Angels, jinn, Prophets etc...). Then move onto to reading the English translation of Qur'an and seerah (Biography of Prophet ). Learn stories of Sahabah. Learn about ahadeeth and how they are applied to Islam. Finally, learn fiqh. Fiqh of salah, Fiqh of wudhu, fiqh of zakah etc...

People you are not scholars. Scholars have said there is a difference of opinion in music being/not being haraam. Live with it!

this is true sister, but not true of 99% of the ones these brothers like. Also I think if we ask the young brother who started the thread I think we will find that the type of music he has been listening to is the type that no scholar would allow due to its form, contents and themes.

Its a good dream InshaAllah because Allah was warning you,

showing you not to go the bad way in life InshaAllah

and opening up the path of good for you through it.

    the people who Allah forsakes,

they often have sweet dreams, but a terrible end.

always remember that dream and always hold on to the handhold that doesn't break

Thank you all for helping me.
I needed it. Well I actually intend to enroll in some courses at Al-Maghrib institute which just opened up in my area.
And yes the music which i listen to before this are all the music which is not encouraged and haram as i know it now.
Well the internal voice is still there but i seem to be able to some kind of control it abit after praying tahajud prayers maybe thrice a week or so.
I find this act hard to be done which is to lower my gaze because in my country girls do not cover up and they expose themselves.
Wherever i look at another direction to prevent from looking there will always be another person. So its like whichever direction i face, there will be people that does not cover up.
Example in my school, in the bus and so on.

Help me in guiding me towards the sweetness of faith.

Al-Maghrib may be good for knowledge but it does not remove waswasa. Go in jamaat for 3 days or 10 days and you'll see a big difference . I don't know how it is in Singapore, but a lot of schools in North America have the summer off and this is the ideal time to go for jamaat. Going in jamaat for 3, 10, 40 days removes you from a sinful environment and the love for good a'maal and hatred of doing sins will become a habit in your life.

Lowering the gaze is also something that we should not leave. Many of us on this forum live in the West, in countries like the UK, US, Canada, where we have to deal with the opposite sex either at school, university, or work. Try your best to look away or have a brother with you so that there are few distractions.

    Walaikum Assalam Warahmatullah wabarkatuhu brother,
    1) It's Shaitaan for doing bad stuffs.

    2) Music is totally haaram as it detached you from your lord.

    3) Think your death is coming and then pray to Allah SWT. You will pray from your bottom of your heart.

    4) Read The Quran a little but deeply and go for dawah where you learn everything about islam.

Something that brought me closer to Islam when I was younger was simply reading about our history, whether military or political. Perhaps you should do the same. A good website is the lostislamichistory one which also has a twitter and facebook page with constant updates.
