Aamad (inspiration?) of Poetry

Is it true that poets get some inspiration whereby they can compose long poems in no time, all of a sudden. If this phenomena exists, how has it been explained, Also does it happen to non-poetic people, who havent strung together a couple of verses in their lives and all of a sudden they can write a poem?

Although I'm definitely not a poet, usually when I end up writing a poem, it is exactly as you mentioned.

Any time I force myself to write, it comes out dry and brittle and does not even flow well.

I'm not sure you can explain it except inspiration from Allah. (if you are talking about Islamic poetry).

If you do not write it down or memorise it immediately do you completely forget it later?, reason why i am asking this is the other day I was sitting somewhere and all of a sudden a whole poem (on spirituality yes) started playing in my head, one that I hadnt heard of before, this continued for some two three mins until I had to clear my head because I was talking to someone and I dont remember any of it now, Another reason I ask this is because I have heard that Allama Iqbal and most great poets had aamad of ashaar so I want to know what this phenomena is, something like kashf or what?, why did they have it, if its inspiration form Allah, what category of inspiration does it fall in?

I don't usually completely forget it, but I won't be able to find the right words if I don't write it right away. That's why if something does pop up in my head, I usually write it down. I keep a pen and book near me at all times, even when I'm out. I think there were also some shuyookh (Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi? not sure) who recommended the same.

I am not sure whether I'd be able to answer the rest though.

But he is a sufi, people are going to say that automatically if they see something out of the ordinary in his ashaar. Why and how it happens to most poets whether sufi or not is the question, but I think I'll let it rest here for sake of not delving into what we have little knowledge of.

There is one thing I can see though as a possible answer. As poets are thinkers and their strands of thoughts keep on piling up and one day the brain, which is a complex entity, processes and arranges everything in the form of a poem due to the inherent poetic abilities of the mind in question....
