    [QUOTE=hasinah;233332]The Fiqh of Fasting - sunnipath.com

THE EXPIATORY PAYMENT (FIDYA) FOR FASTING

A very old person who does not have the strength to fast or a very sickly or diseased person who has no hope of recovering after Ramadan must make an expiatory payment for each fast missed in Ramadan.

The expiatory payment for a fast is similar to that of a missed obligatory or necessary prayer:

To give 3½ lbs (approx. 1.6 kg) of wheat or 7 lbs (approx. 3.2 kg) of barley.

Or the equivalent of the above in cash or kind.

If, however, an old or sick person gains strength or recovers after Ramadan, he must keep the missed number of fasts and whatever was given as fidya will be a reward for him from Allah Most High.

No one is allowed to fast for another (sick or fit) person. [Hajj can be made for another person (F: under certain conditions), but one it is not valid to pray or fast for another person.]

    AAWW,

Please, i need answers. I was sick during the Ramadan of 1430, whereby i missed 10 days of fasting which i was hoping i will repay after Ramadan. Unfortunately, I could not repay the missed days of fasting till this year's (1431) Ramadan. The sickness warranted that i be place on drugs (specifically timed from last year to this year) with my condition still unstable. Meanwhile I still missed some days of fasting this year before finding somebody to make the expiatory payment to.

My question is how do I repays these missed days? 10 days from last year and 11 days from this year.

FIRST ONE IS THAT REALLY IF YOU ARE STILL SICK AND CAN NOT ABLE TO FAST THE PAST FASTING AND THE DOCTOR HAS SAID THAT YOU WILL NEVER RECOVER WITH YOUR DESEASES THAN IT IS NECSSARY TO GIVE EXPIATORY PAYMENT FOR ONE FAST IS 1.75 KG OF WHEAT AS FIDYAH i.e..ONE WHO WILL NEVER RECOVER.
SECOND THING IS THAT A PERSON IS SICK BUT HE CAN RECOVER FROM IT AND IF IT HAS LEFT FOR MANY YRS. ALSO IS NECSSARY HAVE THE FASTING IN THE WHOLE LIFE ANY TIME.

I'm confused. When do you make the intention for fasting? Am I supposed to make the intention at today's Maghrib since I start fasting tomorrow?

Bro... Intentions are something which you make by heart... When you get up for Sahiri and have meal before the Fajr prayers, Allah obviously know that you Intended to fast and therefore you have got up from your bed. Therefore, You need not do anything/proclaim anything, Since Allah knows your intentions already that you are going to fast.

What is destined will reach you, even if it be underneath two mountains. What is not destined, will not reach you, even if it be between your two lips

we can make intention of the fast of the month of ramzan in the night also and also in the day before half day and the half day is calculated as this from the subh sadiq starts till sunset how many hours will be their than make it half of .for example : If subh sadiq is at 04:45 than sunset is at 18:45 than it will be 14 hours than you divide by 2 it is 7 hours and than start calculating from 04:45 +7 hours than it will be 11:45 till than you can make the intention of the fasting of ramzan with a condition that we should not have any thing which breaks the fasting during this period .and as a precation donot do the intention till 11:45 it is better to do 11:30 .

Ramadhan means extreme heat, drought, dry season, the feeling of hotness. Shahru ramadhan means a time of heat or feeling the extreme heat. We can have Ramadan even in winter because the Islamic calendar follows the moon and therefore the months cannot be identified with the time of the year anymore (summer, winter, rainy season, dry season etc)

Yes you are right brother, since the lunar calendar changes every year so Ramadan will be later than the year before.

You are supposed to fast in Ramadan and make intention to fast the day b4 and break the fast w/ food after the sun sets

Your observations are right on, I agree with most of what you say.

Your writing is very informative and really made me think.
