Hadith regarding Muawiyah r.a. cursing Ali a.s.
I was going through the a few forums and found that some brothers/sisters were having an issue with this hadith.
" أمر معاوية بن أبي سفيان سعدا فقال : ما منعك أن تسب أبا التراب ؟"
sahih muslim.
Translation : Muawiyah bin abi sufyan ordered saad then said "why is it that you don't curse abi turab?
The brothers on islamic-forum.net was asked a question by a shia regarding why did muawiyah order saad to curse ali,and then pointed to the fact that the word "أمر" was used.
They then seemed to not be able to answer this at all.
It should be noted that in arabic, when we say the word "أمر",it can mean to summon.
Just like in english.....
For example, "King henry ordered john to his court and asked him,why didn't you curse joe"?
Muawiyah r.a. ordered saad to him and then asked him why wasn't he cursing Ali a.s.
The Arabic " أمر معاوية بن أبي سفيان سعدا فقال : ما منعك أن تسب أبا التراب ؟"
Those who say this sentence means that muawiyah is ordering saad to curse is either lying or ignorant,as this sentence is as clear as day. And I am actually surprised that the other brothers didn't see this.
This is how Imam an nawawi r.a. also understood this hadith.
Anyways,
Wallahu 3lam.
