Life is a battle fought by us all, we all must fight and many will fall
A though provoking poem by Zahid bin Ghulam Rasool on the transitory nature of life, the temptations we face in it and the ills of society we have all fallen victim to:
CALLL OF DUTY
We face our own demons day and night,
in all shapes and sizes they come to fight.
To face us in battle they never tire,
dedicated and tough they never retire.
Plotting and planning to bring us down,
in misery and despair they want us to drown.
Life is a battle fought by us all,
We all must fight and many will fall.
They entice your desires with drink and drugs,
once you are caught, it pulls and tugs.
Dragging you screaming into a living hell,
in misery and stupor to forever dwell.
Unless you crawl out you are forever gone,
you lose everything in this unfortunate con.
Life is a battle fought by us all,
we all must fight and many will fall.
Offering you fame, status, power and wealth,
promising you prosperity and the best of health.
They show you an illusion that glitters and glows,
and like rivers of bliss this propaganda flows.
They want in return your morals and soul,
and then your life is under their control.
Life is a battle fought by us all,
we all must fight and many will fall.
Your time and thoughts they want to subdue,
diverting your attention from everything true.
All your efforts will be shot down in flames,
by iPads, Facebook, internet and computer games.
With technology designed to steal your mind,
engrossed in this madness, your defeat is defined.
Life is a battle fought by us all,
we all must fight and many will fall.
They feed your emotions of greed and hate,
intolerance and jealousy they try and create.
Resentment, anger, arrogance and despair
are destructive emotions that do not spare.
Even the best warrior will be broken down,
as these emotions will render him a clown.
Life is a battle fought by us all,
we all must fight and many will fall.
Inside us all is a force very strong,
it distinguishes between right and wrong.
This is power imbedded in our hearts,
of pure goodness that never departs.
It lights up the path before our eyes,
burning brightly, it evaporates the lies.
Life is a battle fought by us all,
we all must fight and many will fall.
You my son must continue to fight,
tread the path that is pious and right.
Crippled, tired with nothing left to give?
you must fight and you must live!
Listen to these words carefully my son,
battles are lost but the war will be won.
You shall overcome, I know you can,
because you my son, are a man!
