it is strange that those who think music is permitted do not know what music and under what circumstances is permitted and by whom.
a) permission of music by a few scholars does NOT mean it is permission to listen to metallica. or qawwalis containing shirk. yeah how many people know the person asked in qawwali is not 'mustaqil' and is an intermediary? asking people to listen to qawwali with a handbook on istigatha in their backpockets is ridiculous.
b) the opinions permitting music are minority and they.do.not.count. the fuqaha have given clear guidelines for that. it is ridiculous. someone once quoted imam dhahiri and a fatwa he gave which was his ijtihad and the fatwa was such that you read it and you knew it was wrong. it was so obvious. just like it is obvious when a 'scholar' permits usury because 'in modern times businesses cannot run w/o usury'. and then someone comes and says to both the opinions of this scholar and imam dhahiri, 'we have a valid difference of opinion', hence to each their own.
ironically that 'tolerance' doesnt stop them for condemning our (stronger) position. it is always 'you must accept permissibility of music aswell'.

A very thought provoking post. The fetters of the Shariah seem too constricting for people whose minds are straightjacketed in the 'liberal, enjoy your life' mindset. They do not realise that following the Shariah is the true liberation and that person finds unparalleled freedom.

this is true...however it seems like the liberal people think that these "narrow minded" people have always been this way...or that they are like this because they have been brainwashed by their families from a young age...and brain washed by mullahs because they are uneducated themselves and just believe whatever the mullahs have told them

many of the "narrow minded" people lived the same liberal lifestyle before they opened their eyes to the reality of existence...many of them then studied Islam and found that music etc is haraam and have left it despite their love for it
