Default Please Help, this is affecting my fasting

When i eat (break my fast), i get a bloated stomach..full of air/gas and it compounds there making me uncomfortable. In time, i feel the need to belch (burp) but I can't. I struggle to keep down my food, as my reflexes force to try and burp the air/gas out. But i just vomit all the food.

This happens when I drink aswell.

I've medicine to help this, but the doctor says I should take it a few hours before eating and during eating. Obviously, this is impossible as im fasting.

So, if i dont take the medicine i'll continue vomitting the food. Meaning i'll get hardly any nurishment to sustain my body. Its been a few days and its affecting me physically now. I'm so hungry all the time, but this...condition..forces me to focus on medicine only.

My mother told me not to fast on Saturday because the vomitting got worst and i was hardly eating/drinking for 48hours.

But that 'free day' didnt help. I cant live on a tiny amount of food during a whole month. So, can i take this medicine?

I only ask because im meant to take the medicine whenever i feel the bloatidness and thats around the time i eat.

    Assalamoalaykum...

Maybe you can change the types of food that you are eating when you break your fast, because some types of food cause gas.

Also, maybe you can eat just a small amount when you break your fast and then wait for an hour or two and then eat another small amount, instead of just a full meal all at once.

May Allah Ta'ala make things easy for you, Ameen.

    Assalamalikum Alhumdulillah,

I've changed all types of food. It makes no difference. But I really cannot fast if this continues. Maybe I should a day-inbetween? I dont know. My mother is pretty supportive of my wishes, but I dont wanna miss out on Ramadhan.

I'm certain there are others worst off than I, who still fast. But I'm not eating/drinking well and I can feel my body more so than ever. I have a heart condition also where I need alot of water to help me with oxygen.

So many factors. But I dont wanna stop. Am I being sensible or over faithful?

If it is seriously affecting your health, maybe you should stop for now, and consult a scholar on what to do.

Is there no way you can just eat a little to break the fast, then eat the meal after an hour? (brother Alhumdillah said this above)

    Assalamu Alaikum,

Are you certain you're having good food for sehri? I ask because when I lived with my mother they used to have curry and rice for sehri, and they still manage to eat that now. I tried it and I started feel sick throughout the day and finally vomitted close to iftar time. So i put it down to the food.

As has already been mentioned in a previous thread try sticking to slow digesting foods. Have wholegrain cereals, high in fibre low in fat and sugar for sehri. i.e porridge oats, weetabix.

Lots of fruit and a mix of veg.

Yoghurt is excellent for digestive problems try and have that daily, and lots of fruit and veg.

Stay away from fried foods aswell especially for iftar. They can leave you feeling bloated, sluggish and even sick. Not to mention it will leave you heavier by the end of the month, when you should in theory be lighter.

Drink lots of water or fresh fruit juices. Stay off the fizzy stuff and away from tea/coffee.

I hope that helps. I pray that Allah provides you with a cure soon, so that you can gain the maximum benefits and rewards of this holy month ameen.

Allah Ta ala says in the Qur aan, If a person is sick (whilst in Ramadhaan) or
on a journey, then complete fast on other days (besides Ramadhaan).

Have you tried making yourself burp? This really helps when you have a bloated stomach and should, most of the time. relieve it.

Assalam, brothers and sisters, i see that curious observer has a problem, it will be good if the advice of all the brothers and sisters above work, such as changing your diet, belching etc. however if this is not working then you will be branded as ill in sharia.
The Sharia says that in this particular situation you can give fidya for each fast missed to a poor person. The fidya is equivalent to the amount of money one pays for the sadqatul fitr at eid, which is between £1.50 and £2.50 (you have to consult your local mosque to verify the price). the fidya will suffice for the fast missed in ramadan.

However when Allah does give you health (insha Allah), then you will have to keep those qada.

to see more on this you can resort to my fiqh notes on http://www.islam4everyone.org.uk/Fiqhal-siyam.doc

    hope that answers your question
