this may sound stupid but where would the government get enough gold and silver to make and distribute dinar and dirhams. in the current system, its just physical paper and infinite digits on the computer
ABu zakir, I have been with umer from the last three days, met with ulema in karachi along with umer and are working on implementing this, you can join our team if you like.

You should really be careful about swallowing the whole Murabitun party line. Don't assume any one group has all the answers to the questions. A great shaykh once said "Every group has some good; take it and gather it all in within yourself." The hatred of Riba that the Murabitun have is good, their methods are a bit odd, and their Shaykh is not qualified at all, so be careful and take from them the good and do not become like the same as the rest of them are...
Just some brotherly naseehah.

Salaam.
One of the brothers asked why not use paper/digits instead of gold/silver. To be brief, paper money is printed easily, and therefore loses its value quickly with inflation. Also, since paper currency, such as the U.S. dollar, does not have its value backed in precious materials like gold, the government simply makes up a value and says that its value is backed up by law (in other words, it is worth something because we told you so :P ). Also paper money is damaged easily. Gold and silver on the other hand, can't be printed at will (so they retain their value), can't be damaged easily (they don't even rust), and don't require some law to back up their value (you'd have to be insane to think gold has no monetary value). Plus, using gold/silver is a Sunnah, and the Islamic dinar was determined to be the currency of the Muslims by the second Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab, radiullah anhu.
Hope this answers your question.
And Allah knows best.
