Default Some Do's and Dont's about Food/Manners of Eating!

    Going back to basics

Eating in itself is not a problem. Rather, it is the addiction to habits and customs related to eating. If this has occurred, then we need to break the cycle.
The following are some hints on how to simplify our eating habits and to go back to basics:

    Cooking:
[*]Buy food which is easy to cook, inexpensive and which benefits us the most nutritionally[*]Spend minimal time preparing and cooking the food[*]Study the different food groups and nutritious values of different types of meats, vegetables and herbs, and apply it to your own personal circumstances (as individuals react differently depending on their gender, age and genetic characteristics)[*]Do not cook excessive amounts of food[/LIST]

    Eating:

    • Food is a bounty from Allah, do not let it wait for you once it is served
    • Remember the intention and goal of eating. Ask Allah to put barakah in your food and remember His blessings
    • Start with Bismillah and eat with the right hand, using the tips of the first three fingers
    • It is better to eat in a group, preferably from the same platter, and talk in the remembrance of Allah
    • Do not feed anyone except for a pious person, unless doing so for the intention of dawah
    • Eat what is immediately in front of you
    • Never fill your stomach completely the best way is to fill your stomach with one third of food and one third of water
    • Avoid drinking while eating, and if you must drink, drink water which is room temperature
    • Do not mix hot and cold food
    • Do not throw away leftovers
    • Remember to thank Allah for His bounty, generosity and kindness

    .......

That is a first. I never heard of that . Where do we get ideas like that ?

Have you heard of Hazrat Yaqoob's similar incident if I remember correctly .

Why should you not feed someone Allah is feeding all throughout their life . Dawah or not.

Allah is more aware of his position and relation with his creations then all of us.

    Assalamu-alaikum,

You've raised a valid question. However, the above was for general advise only. For the reason that we should be careful of our who is our company and not waste time or energy into having parties/gatherings for people. Also, I believe anytime we do an action our intention should be for pleasing Allah swt. So, in a way you are really giving dawa to anyone you feed. Your intention should be for generousity, sharing, giving back and spending in Allah's path what you were given. Isn't that giving dawah? Therefore, it makes sense doesn it,
Do not feed anyone except for a pious person, unless doing so for the intention of dawah." Dawah doesn't only mean for Non-muslim, we should be giving dawah to each other as well. The condition of the ummah is such that we need the dawah of the basic foundations of our deen first, before giving it to outsiders. We are in need of the basics so bad.

Also, If you really look around, in our time there are plenty "invitations" ou there. What are the purpose of such get together? Who attends them? What are we feeding/being fed?

Anyhow, as I've mentioned it was just general knowledge for people. We should be careful of who we feeding and for what purpose. As a muslim our companions are crucial when it comes to our journey of faith. Hope this clarified your concerns.

yes, we should definiately pay attention to the sources of our earnings. A believer is always concerned about earning Halal. Thus, a believer would not waste their hard earned money on foods that feed people without a goal and intention to please Allah SWT. Thank you for your reminder.

A softer tone of questioning is more in keeping with adab (etiquette).

These are not the OP's own opinions, but the opinions of the scholars.

The scholars have written that this means that one should offer hospitality only to the pious. Hospitality is offered to those who are not in dire need. Feeding of the hungry is exempted here, because feeding them is an act of great virtue.

(Hospitality for the purpose of dawah has already been addressed in the OP.)
