Question Recitation behind Imam in Zohar and Asar

    Asslamualaikum,

    I was reading this

    http://attahawi.com/2011/11/30/trans...d-taqi-usmani/
It gives me an impression that the Hanafi Mazhab propogates reciting Surah Fatiha and a Surah behind the Imam in Jamaah when read silently i.e. Zohar and Asar.

I had an understanding that Hanafi Mazhab propogates not reciting behind the Imam in all 5 time prayers.

    Is this true ?

The above opinion that Hanafiya propogates recitation of Surah Fatiha in sirri salaat, is not the madhab's opinion. In fact it is one riwayah through Imam Muhammad r.a that reciting in jahri salah is makruh (tahrimi) and mubah if not mustahab in sirri salaat. But this is one riwayah, and ibnul humam r.a has rejected this riwayah as well.

The view of the Hanafi Madhab as mentioned in the notes of Hazrat Mufti Taqi Saheb himself in Dars e Tirmidhi, Vol. 1 Pg. 72 is that it is Makruh Tahrimi to recite behind an imam whether jahri or sirri. The other view of it being mustahab has been adopted by some latter hanfiyyah like Allama Abdul Hayy Lakhnawi r.a, and Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri r.a seems to be inclined towards it as well.

That said, I'laaus Sunan Vol.4 Pg. 51 in the explainatory notes it mentions clearly that adopting silence behind Imam is wajib whether in jahri salah or sirri, whether the follower listens to the qira'ah or doe not.

This discussion on qira'at khalf imam is in I'laaus Sunan under the title "An Nahiyu an qira'at khalf al imam" and spans from Pg 50 - 132.

    Wallahu A'lam
