Default Grammatical question regarding Qassas Al-Nabieen

    Assalamu Alaikum,

In the story of Hud in Qassas Al-Nabieen, we find the following line:

I was under the impression that when asking question prompting selection between two choices, the hamza of istifham should be used (not hal). Is my understanding incorrect? Are there exceptions?

    Wa'Salam

In كافية it is mentioned that و ام المتصلة لازمة لهمزة الاستفهام
Then between the lines it is written
This shows that ام منقطعة is not exclusive to همزة الاستفهام but it does not prove هل
The proof that ام منقطعة comes after هل is found in the quraan
In the verse
