    Allahu Akbar!

Masha'Allah... what an amazing gift Allah has given you! Never forget it. Welcome to Islam brother!

And yes, you better believe it, a non-Muslim saying shahadah with conviction = 100% clean of sins at that moment. Anything you EVER did before you were Muslim has now been wiped clean. That is Allah's promise and part of your faith as a Muslim now is to have 100% firm yaqeen (belief, conviction) in it. You're like a newborn baby. Enjoy it and cherish it! New life.

May Allah keep you steadfast in your imaan and may He make it easy for you to learn and implement this beautiful deen into your life, may He keep on guidance and bless you, your family, and your future generations until the day of Qiyamah. Ameen!

Please ask any questions you may have about starting to implement Islam into your life and the brothers and sisters around here will definitely help you out, Insha'Allah.

What can a sinner say brother?

Kindly supplicate for this sinner also.
Welcome to beloved family. May Allah (SWT) grant you firmness and may He (SWT) make your arrival a huge blessing for the whole Ummah.

Every Shahadah brings tears to our eyes.
Happy for you as well as for ourselves.

Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! I wish I could have witnessed your taking your Shahada in person so that I could have hugged you afterward, but this will have to do for now. Reading about your path to Islam in this thread has brought tears to my eyes. Without going into too much detail, someone very near and dear to my heart is not a Muslim and I have been praying constantly that Allah guides this person to the straight and narrow righteous path. Seeing Allah guide you gives me hope that one day, Insha'Allah, this person will be guided, also. Welcome to Islam, my brother.

Allahu Akbar! When you say your shahada you are given a clean slate, all of your past sins are washed away, so for those moments you are indeed 100% clean Welcome to the fold of Islam brother, I'm so happy for you. If you ever need anything, this sister is here for you.

Sorry I know you don't want to talk about dogs but you must understand the issue of impurity is a hanafi madhab issue and is considered pure and fine in the Maliki Madhab. Relax. Keep your dogs in your digs, inshallah.

There are a bunch of links at the bottom of the page but they are all from the hanafi perspective. You need to find more positions from the Maliki madhab if you're still not content that it's okay to keep your dogs.

    Allah O' Akbar!!

Welcome to Islam brother! I have never witnessed anyone taking shahada .. I love these threads, thank you for sharing your story and the last days towards your conversions. Just goes to show how we born muslims take so much for granted. Please remember us in your duas, insha'allah

May Allah swt keep you rightly guided and steadfast on the correct path insha'allah.

Thanks to everyone for your support. It's been wonderful.

My first question relates to making dua; there seem to be many conflicting instructions on the best way to do it, and many people seem to believe that if it is done the wrong way, the dua is not accepted.

I would be very grateful to know what the correct method is, both for the type of dua that has been requested here, as well as the standard daily prayers.

Yesterday (Monday) I went to the prayer room at work, but the Muslims there seemed kind of insulted that I didn't really know how to do it properly and none of them offered to show me, so I ended up going to do it on the roof instead (which was actually much nicer than the crowded little room anyway).

Thanks for this, it's a great relief. The whole topic confused me because everything else about Islam made natural sense to me, I haven't really needed to force myself into believing anything which is why I felt comfortable accepting it as truth. The dog thing was a major exception to that.

None the less, I have made one room in my house a "dog free zone" that they are not allowed to enter, and that is where I'll keep my Qur'aan and do my prayers when I'm at home, just to be on the safe side

I'm happy to say I've also managed to solve all the other issues I initially listed, with the exception of smoking which I'm working on gradually.

    Thanks once again

I had a reply on all of these, but I just noticed your post above in which you indicated most of these were already taken care of- and that you had said your shahada- mash'Allah !

As for the thing about the other Muslims being 'offended' about your prayers, just be up front with them and tell them you're a new Muslim and you want to learn. Then go do your prayers- right beside them- as best you know how and if you're making mistakes sooner or later a brother will snatch you up and set you on the right path. I found that, as a revert (and the whitest guy in the room) it's not a matter of you getting used to them- it's a matter of them getting used to *you*. Once that ice is broken, you'll be in good company for the duration, believe me.
