To be safe from any type of problems,
Recite daily in the morning and evening:
Surah Ikhlas, Surah falak and surah Naas, 3 times. And blow it on your self.
InshAllaah all the problems will be kept away.
There is a hadith but i don't remember it now.

The root of black magic is that it causes khilayat to become muntashir, person begins to see and feel things that are not there. If a person can gain strong composure over his thoughts then he can overcome black magic very well.

Usually when ruqyahs are recited onto the person, we try to observe the reaction.
From this reaction, we MAY be able to narrow down whether it has any connection with jinns/sihr or just physical illness.
(Note, I use the word MAY, is because there are cases when one may not be able to distinguish)
Not all illness are related to jinns and sihr. Some illness are simply physical, with no association with jinns and sihr.

Just to add...
my ustadz has specifically warned us (his students) of foretelling a person that he/she has been put a curse or sihir has been done on him/her. An 'amil SHOULD NOT say that "sihir has been casted on you" when the 'amil cannot be certain of it.
We worry that when an 'amil is guessing and foretelling that a patient is being sihr, the 'amil may fall into the category of "KAHIN" and "'ARRAAF".
KAHIN is a person who claims to know the unseen (ie ghaib) matters
'ARRAAF is a fortune teller.

couldnt agree more with this.. in addition if someone gains the power of Allah's dhikr.. then it can surely weaken any type of magic.. ( as told to me by dearest shaikh omega sahab db) and the long list by ukhan is not necessarily correct.. blaming everything on black magic shall take its toll on aqeeda.. like a salafi brother once told me that the Tsunami in Phuket was handiwork of American and israeli secret weapons.. i told him to repeat the kalimah again..
