Ta'awwudh and spitting DURING Salah?

There is a hadith regarding someone being victim of waswasa, and the Prophet advising him to say "a'udhu billahi min ash-shaytani-r-rajim" and to "spit" thrice on his left.

But - having discussed this on a thread on our forum - it's not clear if this refers to doing that during the Salah or outside it for other kind of waswasah.

I have the doubt that doing that during the Salah may actually invalid it?

I always thought this referred to doing so outside of salah. Does the hadeeth itself mention doing this during salah? If it doesn't, then would it not then follow that doing so during salah would invalidate salah?

Well, that's what I have always though as well. But a brother has heard the opposite, hence my question..

The hadith - as far as I remember - mentions this as a reply to someone who complained to the Prophet of having wasawis during his Salah, but the reply doesn't clearly mention Salah, again, according to what I remember..

I've heard of a similar hadith and I think you do it in salah, though I dont think you say the ta'awuudh. You just spit to your left, but without actually spitting out saliva. This is all I know about this issue. You should ask a mufti for a definite answer.

Yeah insha'Allah, but as they must be very busy in this period with people asking about masa'il of Ramadan, I wanted to give a try on SF before bothering them!...

So again, if anyone could help... : )
