Talking Been a Muslim for a while, trying to become active on the forums again.

    Assalamu alaikum all,

I haven't talked to anyone on these forums ever since I took my shahada. Someone by the name TripolySunni made a comment on a forum post somewhere in the past about me but that was a long time ago. I will post my introduction below and I have a question for forum members to ask after it.

I grew up in a relatively non-denominational Christian family but my call to a higher truth came. It wasn't until August of 2010 where the debacle surrounding the New York Mosque controversy started getting attention in the media when I made a conscious effort to get to know what Muslims were and what they believed in. Initially, I didn't believe the official story about 9/11 and I didn't believe that a religious faith was to blame for this act of terrorism. From then on I started researching about Islam, watching YouTube videos of converts and what it is about, reading the Qur'an and talking to some Muslim friends at school. About a year later I had been watching Eddie from The Deen Show. There was an older YouTube video of him showing how to do the prayer. There was some verses in the Bible that made me see how all of the Prophets (PBUT) prostrated in prayer like Muslims. Then I noticed that Christians weren't allowed to eat pork, just as Jews and Muslims were not allowed to eat either. Shortly after discovering that I said 'I believe in Islam, all roads lead to Islam. I want to be a Muslim'

I accepted Islam on October 7th, 2011 and the alternative name that I may go by around my Muslim brothers and sisters is Miraj Abdullah Hashim. I am Ashari in creed and Maliki in Fiqh (Jurisprudence).

Now for the questions. I registered to this site with the the Hanafi madhab selected as my school of choice but I have recently been studying the Maliki school. How come I can only view the "Islam Q&A - Hanafi Fiqh" forum section although I have selected the Maliki to follow instead? I haven't posted on this forum in a very long time as previously mentioned and I can't access the 'My profile" tab on the top right hand side of the forum. Why is that?

Hope to talk to everyone soon and get some answers to my questions.

    BarakAllah Feekum.

and welcome to Islam, brother. it has been a smooth transition for you.

The reason there isn't a section for Maliki fiqh is because there is no scholar of that school who frequents these forums. The Hanafi fiqh subforum exists because there are Hanafi scholars and students of deen present here who may answer questions reliably. If you want to pose a Maliki fiqh question, you may still do so in the "In-depth fiqh" subsection. But if you've been lurking long enough, don't fret and think that your mind is playing tricks on you because there used to be a dedicated section for Shafi'is and Malikis before but was removed due to lack of scholars of those respective schools posting on this website.

Also, everyone's profiles are disabled and PMing is also disabled on this forum. If you want to make changes to your profile, you may click on "Settings" and go from there to edit your location, madhhab, avatar, signature, etc..

I'm kind of slacking for the first time through Ramadan. I am making an effort to fast whenever I can for a long as possible though. I am praying much more than I did when I reverted and I am reading more Islamic literature and also trying to read through the Qur'an, alhamdulillah.

Masha-Allah, may Allah strengthen you with Imaan! Keep it up Brother Miraj!
It is reported from Abu Umamah from the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alayhi WaSallam) that he said:

    اتَّقُوا فِرَاسَةَ الْمُؤْمِنِ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَنْظُرُ بِنُورِ اللَّهِ

" Fear the Insight of the Believer, for verily he sees with the Light of God"
